Throwback Thursday: From Plans to Reality 📰
Fifty years ago this week, on August 23, 1976, plans were announced for the construction of Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor. The first phase was planned to include 95 apartments and a health care center, with construction expected to begin that fall.
An early brochure included another interesting detail: the future Manor was described as sitting on an 11-acre tract at the corner of 4th and Hickory Streets. Today, there is no Hickory Street here! Does anyone remember it or know what happened to it?
The Manor wouldn’t be completed until 1978, but this little newspaper clipping gives us a glimpse back at where it all began—when Presbyterian Manor was still just an idea taking shape.
By the spring of 1978, that idea was becoming a reality. This photo shows the Manor under construction as it neared completion later that year.
It’s amazing to think that what was once just a plan printed in the newspaper would become home to so many people over the decades. 💜
