🎙️ Childhood Apraxia of Speech Series: Part 1 of 5
When working with children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), it’s important to remember one key concept: speech is motor.
In this video, Childhood Apraxia of Speech expert Anne Hodits discusses why CAS is a motor speech disorder and how treatment must focus on helping children learn and practice the movement sequences needed for speech production.
Because speech is a motor skill, intervention approaches should target motor learning principles. Speech therapists at Strive to Thrive Therapy frequently incorporate evidence-based approaches such as DTTC (Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing) and PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) in her clinical practice to support children with CAS in developing more accurate and consistent speech movements.
Stay tuned for the next 4 videos as Anne shares additional key ingredients for successful CAS intervention!
