Such a great morning with some amazing therapists at ! πŸŽ‰

We talked all things back to school, the emotional landscape for kids AND parents, questions to ask in session, and when to escalate. From Pre-K to college, this season hits every age group differently.

I love these conversations because I always leave learning just as much as I share. That's the best kind of room to be in.

Thank you to Alina Durham from for sponsoring and to Jessica Barber for hosting us at The Hope Place β€” your space is as warm as your welcome. πŸ™πŸΎ

Sometimes the hardest part is finding the words. We are so used to saying "I'm fine" that it becomes automatic even when we are anything but.

So here are 5 things you can say instead when you need to let someone in but do not quite know how.

Swipe through and save the one that feels most true for you right now. πŸ™πŸΎ

And if you are going through something, we see you. You do not have to perform.

Before your student moves into that dorm, there is one conversation most families skip entirely. And it is one of the most important ones you can have!

I recently joined three incredible colleagues, a college professor, a medical doctor, and a learning disabilities specialist, to share 12 tips for preparing your college-bound student for everything ahead. Here are some of my tips:

πŸŽ“ Set a communication plan before they leave.
Not after the tearful goodbye in the parking lot. Before. Decide together when you will talk, how often, and through what. A simple plan removes the guesswork and keeps both of you from feeling disconnected in those first uncertain weeks.

πŸŽ“ Know the difference between homesickness and something more.
Homesickness is normal. But if your student is sleeping too much or too little, withdrawing from everything, or struggling to function day to day, that is worth paying attention to. Trust your instincts as a parent. You know your child.

πŸŽ“Learn what resources are available on campus before there is a crisis.
Academic support, student health, counseling services. Know where they are and make sure your student knows too. Having that information before they need it makes all the difference when a hard moment arrives.

This conversation is one of the most practical things you can watch before move-in day. πŸ“Ί Hit the link in bio to check out the full conversation.

And if you want to follow along with the other incredible voices in this discussion:

"My team and I strive to offer a concierge-level experience where patients feel respected heard, and supported throughout their care."

This is not just something I say. It is the standard I hold myself and my team to every single day. πŸ™πŸΎ

When I designed my Mansfield practice, I was intentional about every detail because I wanted patients to feel the difference the moment they walked through the door. Not just in the quality of the clinical care but in how they are greeted, how their time is respected, and how supported they feel throughout every step of their journey.

A concierge-level experience in mental health care means you are never just a chart or an appointment slot. It means you are seen, heard, and treated with the kind of care and dignity that should be the standard everywhere but unfortunately is not always.

That is the practice I built. And I am proud of it.

A few weeks ago I shared the cover of Living Magazine. Today I want to share a little more of what was behind it. πŸ™πŸΎ "We are making progress every day in removing the stigma from seeking mental health care, but we still have a long way to go." That quote is something I feel in this work every single day. It is why I show up the way I do and why this feature means so much to me.

Here is the thing about practicing medicine the way I was taught: it is not always easy in a world that moves fast and asks doctors to move faster. But I have held onto it anyway because it matters.

A fellow provider recently told me my patient is lucky to have me and that most doctors do not go to these lengths anymore. I am not sharing that to brag. I just want you to know how much heart goes into this work, every single day, for every single patient.

This feature is a reflection of years of showing up, staying true to why I got into this field in the first place, and now getting to bring more of you into that story. Thank you for seeing me and for giving me the space to share not just what I do, but how I show up to do it.

This one truly means a lot! πŸ₯Ή I am so honored and humbled to be featured on the cover of this month’s issue of Living Magazine.

In the feature we talk about some of the things closest to my heart: the lasting impact of the pandemic on teenagers and young adults, why mental health care should never be reduced to just a prescription, how I approach integrating therapy and medication management, and why private, discreet care matters more than most people realize.

We also talk about life here in Mansfield, the practice I have built, and why I believe that with the right guide, clarity and real relief are possible for every patient who walks through my door.

I am so grateful to Living Magazine Arlington for this recognition and to everyone who has trusted me with their care. None of this happens without you. πŸ™πŸΎβœ¨

The bags are almost packed. The dorm is almost ready. But are you? πŸ™πŸΎ I am so excited to introduce Before You Fly, an intimate send-off experience I created for college-bound students and the parent who loves them.

This is not just a goodbye. It is a chance to laugh, connect, and leave with a real game plan for one of life's biggest transitions. Together you will make two keepsakes, share a meaningful moment, and walk away with an action guide full of tools to keep your relationship strong across the distance.

As a board-certified psychiatrist and the founder of The College Psychiatrist, I have seen firsthand how much this transition impacts both students and parents. I built this experience because I believe it deserves more than a hug at the door.

What you'll leave with:
A keepsake necklace you made together. A custom scent blend that is your signature, shared. An action guide with real steps to stay connected through the distance.

Session details:
Saturday, July 25th at 2pm or 4pm
Sunday, July 26th at 2pm or 4pm
Only 3 families per session, intentionally intimate
Mansfield, TX 76063
$97 per parent-child pair

Juneteenth is about freedom. Real freedom includes your mental health. πŸ™πŸΎ

For too long, Black Americans have navigated mental health systems that were not built with them in mind. Systems that required them to explain their culture, minimize their experience, or translate their pain just to receive care. That is not acceptable and it is not what care should feel like.

Representation in mental health care is not just about comfort. It is about walking into a space and knowing that the person across from you has some understanding of what it costs to be you in this world. It is about receiving support that sees your whole story, not just your symptoms.

At The College Psychiatrist, we believe that Black college students and young professionals deserve care that honors the full weight of what they are carrying. The pressure of firsts. The weight of expectations. The exhaustion of showing up in spaces that were not always designed for you.

To every Black student and young professional navigating this season: your mental health matters. The strength it takes to keep going deserves to be honored, not just expected.

You do not have to earn the right to be supported.
Happy Juneteenth. πŸ™πŸΎ
