Ellenhorn A Community Treatment (PACT) team providing comprehensive, individualized and multidisciplinary psychiatric and psychosocial services

Ellenhorn is an effective alternative to long-term residential care, delivering intensive and individualized multidisciplinary services. We have three locations: Boston, Los Angeles, and New York City. For clients who are local to Boston or initially need more structure, we offer our innovative residential setting. As an evidence-based Program for Assertive Community Team (PACT), we have a high success rate with difficult cases that present co-occurring medical, substance misuse or complex psychiatric issues, and with clients who don’t fit into traditional residential programs. Our treatment approach combines psychosocial rehabilitation, medical/psychiatric care, and a focus on physical wellness. From day one, we work toward the client’s reintegration into the community, re-engagement with life, and rediscovery of a sense of purpose and hope. We believe that staying connected to the world is central to an individual getting better. Aside from psychosocial support, robust psychiatric care, vocational counseling, nursing, and non-pharmacological therapies, we provide direct support for our clients in regards to activities of daily living. As a PACT program, Ellenhorn is a “single source” model of treatment. Instead of providing only one component of a person’s treatment and referring-out for other services, we offer a full range of rehabilitation and treatment resources delivered by a multidisciplinary team. In this integrated approach to services, the “whole person,” rather than a cluster of symptoms is treated. SUPPORT INCLUDES:
Psychiatry/Psychopharmacology
Open Dialogue for Psychosis
Mentalized Based Therapy (MBT)
Wellness Coaching
Social Rhythms Therapy
Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT) for Substance Use
Community Integration
Psychosocial Rehabilitation
Medication Independence Planning

What if the most important response to psychosis isn’t to “figure someone out,” but to help them feel heard?

Ross Ellenhorn's presentation on Open Dialogue at the YATA 2026 Annual Conference explored how connection, community, and space for the “unsaid” can support people experiencing psychosis. One idea stayed with the room: recovery is about more than removing symptoms. It’s also about helping someone build a life in which they feel connected and able to participate.

What might change if we approached care with more curiosity and less certainty?

That's a wrap on the inaugural West Coast Psychosis Care and Connection Roundtable Retreat! 🌊

This past weekend in Santa Barbara, clinicians, researchers, advocates, program leaders, and people with lived experience came together for two days centered on one shared goal: reimagining how we understand and support people experiencing psychosis.

Building on the success of our East Coast retreat in the Berkshires, this gathering carried the conversation west, exploring humanistic, person-centered approaches to care across community and residential settings. From thought-provoking presentations to an Open Dialogue activity, a mindfulness somatic practice, beach walks, small group dinners, and closing roundtable discussions, the weekend was full of learning, reflection, and genuine connection.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible presenters, our co-hosts Windhorse Integrative Mental Health and The Monarch Community, our sponsors, and every attendee who showed up with curiosity and compassion. The energy in the room made it clear that this growing West Coast community of care is just getting started.

See you next time!

Join us in Santa Barbara this October for the Psychosis Care and Connection Roundtable, where thought leaders like William Coombs, DSW, LCSW and Ross Ellenhorn come together to talk about what actually helps people heal.

This field carries a century of wisdom for working with people who've had extreme experiences, wisdom that goes beyond the medical model and takes the whole person into account.

Every clinical team has cases that test them. Clients who struggle to trust help, or whose complexity creates strain not just in the room, but across the whole team. AMBIT (Adaptive Mentalization-Based Integrative Treatment) was built for just such cases.

Join Ellenhorn Director of AMBIT Shelly Simpson, LCSW for an AMBIT workshop and consultation series. The series will feature academic lectures and skill-building activities, and attendees will leave with AMBIT techniques they can immediately put into practice.
