June is here, and with it comes longer days, fresh starts, and new opportunities to care for yourself. ☀️

As you move through your recovery journey this month, remember that healing isn't about being perfect—it's about showing up for yourself one moment at a time.

Recovery can feel challenging at times, but you don't have to navigate it alone. Small acts of care, connection, and kindness can make a meaningful difference.

Take what you need from these reminders and leave the rest. We’re cheering you on every step of the way. 🌼

🌈 Happy Pride Month from Rock Recovery!

This month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community while also recognizing the unique challenges many individuals face when it comes to mental health, body image, and eating disorders.

Research shows that LGBTQIA+ individuals experience eating disorders at significantly higher rates than their heterosexual and cisgender peers, yet far too many people struggle in silence, never receiving the diagnosis, treatment, or support they deserve.

At Rock Recovery, we believe everyone deserves access to compassionate, inclusive, and affirming care. This Pride Month, we're committed to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and creating spaces where people can show up exactly as they are.

We're also excited to participate in two special Pride events this June:

🌈 Eating Recovery Center's Out Loud Pride Summit (June 11th) featuring Rock Recovery's own Shandree McNatt on a lived experience panel
🌈 SOIL: Embodying Joy & Honoring LGBTQ+ Stories (June 27th), a Pride-centered poetry and journaling workshop created in partnership with Giovonni Hinton

Join us this month as we celebrate Pride, build community, and continue working toward a world where recovery is accessible for all. 💚

Stigma is not harmless. It delays diagnosis. It limits access to care. It silences people who are struggling. And it costs lives. That is why many eating disorders nonprofit organizations in the country are coming together.

This World Eating Disorders Action Day, we demand something better:
Stop Stigma. Start Care. Together.

We are a proud member of CEDO (Coalition of Eating Disorders Organizations), a collective of mission-driven organizations and allies working to increase awareness, advocate for equitable access to care, challenge harmful systems, and strengthen support for people affected by eating disorders and disordered eating.

We believe:
• People over profits
• Healing through connection
• Weight-inclusive and affirming care
• Trauma-informed support
• Equity, dignity, and belonging for all people.

Real change happens when organizations move from working beside each other to working together. Today, we stand united in action, advocacy, and hope.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Strength Not Stigma last Thursday! Together, we created a space for honest conversation, meaningful connection, and a powerful reminder that none of us are alone in our mental health journeys.

We are deeply grateful to our outstanding panelists and speakers, Hon. JD Spain Sr., Tonia Bock, Nikia Bergan, Barry McNinch, and Dr. Linda Lang, for sharing their wisdom, vulnerability, and insights. Your voices helped inspire hope and challenge the stigma that too often surrounds mental health.

A special thank you to our sponsors, Arlington Turkey Trot, Equip, The Dorm, and NAMI-Northern Virginia, whose support made this event possible. And a very special shoutout to Raw Element Creative Studios for taking photos of the event, and to Rockland's BBQ for providing the delicious light bites!

And to everyone who attended in-person and virtually, thank you for showing up, engaging in the conversation, and helping us continue the work of making mental health discussions more open, accessible, and supportive for all.

The conversation doesn't end here. Together, we can continue choosing strength over stigma. 💚

⏰ Only a few days left! ⏰

We’re racing toward our $10,000 Mental Health Awareness Month goal and thanks to this incredible community, we’re already nearly halfway there! 💚

Every dollar raised helps provide affordable eating disorder therapy and support groups for individuals and families who otherwise may not be able to access care.

Right now, the need for mental health support continues to grow. More people than ever are reaching out for help, and your generosity ensures they don’t have to face recovery alone.

The good news? There’s still time to make a difference.

Make your gift before midnight on Sunday, May 31st and help us cross the finish line. Whether you give $10, $50, or $500, every contribution brings us one step closer to ensuring that healing remains accessible to everyone who needs it.

GLP-1 medications are everywhere right now — but conversations about how they may impact eating disorder recovery are often missing.

At Rock Recovery, we believe it’s important to have thoughtful, informed, and compassionate discussions around the growing pressure surrounding weight loss, body image, and GLP-1 usage.

That’s why we’re partnering with The Renfrew Center for a special free virtual CE training: Under Pressure: Eating Disorder Recovery in the Era of Ozempic.

Join us on June 11th as we explore:
• The impact of weight stigma
• ethical considerations surrounding GLP-1 usage
• How these medications can interfere with long-term recovery efforts
• How providers can better support individuals navigating recovery in today’s climate

What does eating disorder recovery really look like — and why does accessible mental health care matter so much? 💚

Rock Recovery Executive Director Christie Dondero Bettwy recently joined the Eating Disorder Spotlight podcast to share more about recovery, community, stigma, and the importance of making support accessible for everyone who needs it. ✨

We’re so grateful for opportunities like this to continue spreading awareness, hope, and honest conversations around eating disorders and mental health.

Long weekends are for slowing down, soaking up the sunshine, and being a little extra gentle with yourself. ✨

Whether that looks like taking mindful breaks, reaching out to a friend, making space for joy, or simply pausing for a few deep breaths — every small act of self-kindness matters.

Recovery isn’t about being perfect. It’s about caring for yourself, one moment at a time. 💚

Recovery conversations don’t end at a certain age — and neither does the need for support. 💚

This month on the Rock Recovery blog, we’re highlighting the often-overlooked experience of navigating eating disorder recovery in midlife. From changing relationships with body image to caregiving, aging, identity, and healing, this piece by Cecilia Perez-Zamora, LCPC offers insight, encouragement, and hope for those walking through recovery at any stage of life.
