Starting today, September 10 and through Friday, September 11, from 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., the Yellow Line will run modified service operating between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Sq only, and trains will single track on the Blue Line between Van Dorn St and Braddock Rd. Some Blue Line trains will operate between Downtown Largo and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to minimize train traffic.

During this time, WMATA will perform proactive work to support destressing of the rails, which helps prevent track abnormalities.

H.R. 1 Medicaid & SNAP Changes: Northern Virginia Planning Session

Changes are coming to Medicaid and SNAP under H.R. 1, including new federal work requirements. Virginia wants to hear from the organizations and community partners who will be helping residents navigate these changes.

The Virginia HHR, VDSS, and DMAS are bringing together local agencies, community organizations, workforce partners, educators, employers, and service providers to identify barriers and service gaps, map available community resources, and help shape a coordinated response.

According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a service dog is a dog that’s been individually trained to perform work or tasks to assist a person with a disability. Because providing emotional support or comfort isn’t a task related to a person’s disability, they’re considered pets. Only service dogs and their handlers are allowed in public places where pet dogs aren’t allowed.

The National Library Services for the Blind and Print Disabled, and the Library of Congress invite you to join them for a screening of “Brailled It,” on Monday, September 14, 2026.

“Brailled It” is a groundbreaking feature documentary that follows three blind and low-vision students competing in the Braille Challenge, an international academic competition. This unique 75-minute movie was filmed entirely through immersive sound and chest-mounted cameras worn by the students.

Today, Tuesday, September 8, 2026 marks the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. On this date in 1966, the first episode of Star Trek "The Man Trap" premiered in the United States (Canada got the first episode two days earlier).

Gene Roddenberry came up with a philosophy held by the Vulcan people. He called it IDIC: infinite diversity in infinite combinations. It suggests that an ideal society is made up of many different types, all working together.
