Dr. Toppen grew up outside of Chicago, IL, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school before earning his undergraduate degree in Biology at Northeastern Illinois University and his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry.

On his time off, Dr. Toppen enjoys outdoor activities including fishing, kayaking, and hiking.
