The PNK Cancer Treatment Foundation began operations and was founded by Markies E. The Foundation provides direct financial aid to cancer patients with limited or no means to pay for their treatment. Hart watched several relatives and members of his community battle cancer and struggle to pay for treatment because they were without health care or unable to receive financial assistance. He was pers
onally moved to raise funds to help pay for their treatment. Markies found many organizations that provide counseling services for patients, use funds to research cures for cancer, and offer education and support groups for patients, but few of these organizations actually provide direct financial assistance to patients for cancer treatment expenses (e.g., medical expenses, equipment, prescriptions, etc). Since the Foundation relies heavily on donations, Markies wanted to ensure that donors and others get to see exactly how their funds are put to use. He believes this not only shows good stewardship but it also instills a sense of pride in the donors—they get to read about the patients who are receiving their funds and watch their progress as they battle cancer.
