OCD Awareness Week
October 11-17, 2026
OCD is more common than you might think.

One of the reasons awareness matters is because OCD can feel incredibly isolating, especially when someone is experiencing intrusive thoughts or fears they’re afraid to talk about.

But OCD affects millions of people, including children, teens, and adults.

Intrusive thoughts are also a part of the human experience. Having an unwanted or upsetting thought does not mean that you want it to happen, agree with it, or that it says something about
who you are.

For someone with OCD, however, these thoughts can become especially distressing and get caught in a cycle of fear, doubt, reassurance, avoidance, or compulsions.

Talking openly and accurately about OCD helps reduce shame.

You may know someone affected by OCD without ever realizing it.

This , let’s make room for more understanding, less judgment, and conversations about mental health that people don’t have to be afraid to have.

October is ADHD Awareness Month

ADHD is more than being distracted or “having a lot of energy.” It can affect focus, organization, time management, emotional regulation, impulse control, and everyday functioning.

For people with ADHD, the goal isn’t to “fix” who they are. The goal is to better understand how their brain works, build helpful supports, develop coping strategies, and reduce the ways
symptoms interfere with daily life.

Therapy can be one helpful part of that process by supporting emotional regulation, routines, organization, self-esteem, relationships, and other challenges that may come along with ADHD.

If you or your child is struggling with ADHD symptoms, you don’t have to figure it all out alone.

Reaching out for support can be a great place to start.

Social anxiety is a common mental health challenge that affects many teen girls. It goes beyond simply feeling shy or nervous. Social anxiety involves an intense fear of being judged, embarrassed, or rejected by others in social environments. These feelings can make everyday activities, such as speaking in class, meeting new people, or attending social events, feel overwhelming.

Teen girls with social anxiety often have symptoms of constant worry about what others think of them. They might avoid raising their hand in class, participating in group activities, or even talking to friends. Physical symptoms can include a racing heart, sweating, shaking, blushing, or feeling sick to their stomach. Because of these symptoms, many girls choose to avoid situations that make them anxious, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation.

The effects of social anxiety can impact school performance, friendships, and overall well-being. Girls may struggle to make new friends, participate in activities they enjoy, or express their opinions. Over time, social anxiety can affect self-esteem and lead to other challenges such as depression or stress.

The good news is that social anxiety is treatable. Talking to a trusted adult, school counselor, therapist, or mental health professional can help. Learning coping strategies, such as deep breathing, positive self-talk, and gradually facing feared situations, can build confidence over time. Most importantly, social anxiety does not define who you are!!
