I’m excited to be partnering with HOTWORX Arlington (Smokey Point) for a special Science of Breathing workshop on Wednesday, July 15th.

Together, we’ll explore how intentional breathing influences the nervous system, resilience, recovery, focus, and overall well-being, while experiencing these practices inside HOTWORX’s infrared isometric saunas. This 90-minute workshop blends modern respiratory science with the timeless practices of pranayama, offering practical tools you can take into your workouts and everyday life.

This workshop is exclusively for HOTWORX members.

If you’ve been curious about HOTWORX or are interested in attending, reach out to the HOTWORX Arlington (Smokey Point) team to learn more about membership options. I’d love to see you there!

Thank you to the HOTWORX team for the opportunity to collaborate. I’m looking forward to sharing an evening of learning, practice, and community.

Is yoga a religion?

It’s a question that doesn’t have a clean answer—and the more time you spend on the path, the more interesting that question becomes.

At the surface level, yoga doesn’t ask you to believe anything. There’s no required doctrine, no central authority, no fixed system of belief that you have to accept to participate.

But as practice deepens, something begins to emerge.

Not as a requirement—but as a pattern.

Many traditions speak of God as something separate, something that created the universe. Yoga often points in a different direction—toward consciousness itself, not as something within the universe, but as the field in which the universe appears.

That’s not something yoga asks you to believe.

But it is something many begin to sense.

And that’s where the question becomes more subtle.

Not whether yoga is a religion…
but whether direct experience, over time, begins to take the shape of something that resembles one.

If this is something you’ve wondered about, I explore it more deeply in the latest Along the Path article:

You don’t notice how much you’re carrying…
until you stop.

Thoughts.
Expectations.
Old conversations.
Endless input.

It builds slowly. Quietly.
Until the mind feels full—and you assume that’s just how it is.

Śauca offers something different.

Not perfection.
Not control.
Just clarity.

A simple question:
What are you letting in… and what are you still holding onto?

Because not everything that enters needs to stay.

And not everything you carry is yours to keep.

You can let go now.

Nothing changed. You did.

There comes a point in practice where the world around you remains exactly the same—but your experience of it begins to shift.

The same conversations, the same environments, the same rhythms… yet something feels different.

Quieter.

More spacious.

At times, this can feel like distance. Like a subtle disconnection from the people or spaces you once moved through effortlessly.

But it’s not disconnection.

It’s a change in relationship.

You’re no longer pulled in the same way.
No longer dependent on constant engagement to feel at ease.

And while that can feel isolating at first, it’s often the beginning of something deeper:

A steadiness that doesn’t require noise.
A presence that doesn’t depend on being understood.

This is part of the path.

Alone, not isolated.

We tend to think we need more energy.

More motivation.
More discipline.
More drive.

But often, the issue isn’t a lack of energy—it’s how we’re using it.

In yoga, this is the teaching of Brahmacharya.

Traditionally interpreted as celibacy, but more deeply understood as the wise use of energy. The question becomes simple:

Where is your energy going?

Into distraction?
Into excess?
Into habits that leave you depleted rather than focused?

Or into something intentional?

This new piece explores how this ancient idea applies directly to modern life—from how we use our attention, to how we show up in relationships, to how we move through our work.

Because vitality isn’t something we gain.

It’s something we stop losing.
