Fifty percent of small businesses fail within the first five years. But that didn’t stop me from trying. I actually never wanted to start a business. I only ever cared about treating patients. But ten years ago, something changed for me.
I became a new mom under the toughest of circumstances. I tragically lost my mom a couple of months earlier. Both my son and I had significant injuries from the delivery. Thankfully, he received the very best care, but I didn’t know where or how to get help for myself. At six weeks, I remember hearing the same thing every other postpartum woman heard before me: that I had no remaining activity restrictions. No recovery guidelines. No referrals. I finally realized why I treated so many young women with significant back injuries. They never properly recovered from this time in their lives.
In 2016, I started Personalized Physical Therapy, an in-home business focusing on treating the unique issues of pregnant/postpartum women with manual therapy. After 2.5 years, I got too busy to keep up with the travel. In 2018, I rented one room in a shared office space. In 2020, I moved to a larger shared office space and added two more physical therapists to my team (and somehow convinced my sister to drive from Delaware to work with me. This is still my greatest business decision!). In 2023, I moved into my first solo office space with 5 treatment rooms.
We are now a team of seven incredible physical therapists and have helped over 1,500 patients. We still treat many moms and welcome their children. We still offer in-home services. We also specialize in chronic neck and back pain, pelvic floor issues, scar tissue, scoliosis, orthopedic injuries, post-concussion, and vestibular issues. We offer dry needling and manual lymphatic drainage.
Over the past decade, our mission has remained the same: provide skilled, compassionate care and help patients make progress when other treatments have fallen short. My life's work truly lies in the children I am raising and within the walls of my office.
To every patient, physician, friend, and family member who has supported us, referred to us, and trusted us with your care—thank you.
Happy TEN years to Personalized Physical Therapy! We look forward to celebrating our patients and each other all week long.
