As much as we doulas can plan, sometimes we can’t attend every birth. It’s a heavy weight to carry when you can’t make it to a birth as the primary doula🥺 My values of respect, family-centered care, and community align to ensure that backup doula support is available when I cannot attend a birth. So this past week, when three clients were laboring within 12 hours of each other 😰, and two births were 15 minutes apart🫣, I am incredibly grateful for our community doulas who collaborate with me and my clients to offer continuous labor support and can be there when I am at another birth 🫶 Shout out to Jes and Teresa who held my clients hand and guided them through thier birth journey when I was with another family. From guilt to gratitude, to my clients who navigated this change and welcomed thier little ones into the world with incredible strength, bravery, courage and a whole lot of love. Always inspired!

As you reflect on creating birth preferences, what tools do you have in place to navigate and adapt to the unknown in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum?

It been a little quiet over here, as this past week I’ve been honored to support 4 families welcome their beautiful baby into the 🌎

When I can’t be 2️⃣ places at once, I was able to support a beautiful birth today in SB thanks to my community birth workers.

While us doulas are there to support families, today I felt immeasurably supported by my friends and community workers who literally showed up for our community event when I had to rush to SB for a family welcoming thier baby.

Beaming and glowing with gratitude for serving my community and being equally supported in my community.

🙋🏽‍♀️ Yes, it’s me! I’m here! And when I’m not here, I’m usually studying for my MSN Program or caring for families from pregnancy to postpartum and holding space for the joy, loss, hugs, warm cups of tea, and milestones that nurture and enrich each family's journey while simultaneously loving on my own little family.

🫶I have also been slowing down to process the world around us and intentionally move much grief, anger, and sadness into advocacy, self-care and HOPE.

🔆I am re-envisioning how I show up in the virtual space, and I look forward to sharing more school and doula updates and educational content.

I recently joined a newly established advisory board through the SLO County Public Health Department to help inform program and policy implementation, funding priorities, advocacy, and equity within Maternal and Child Health programs. Supporting the health and well-being of new parents and families requires strong interdisciplinary collaboration centering voices from diverse communities across organizational and government levels. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute my professional experience and education to these important conversations to improve health and outcomes on the Central Coast.

Nursing Family Partnerships is a program offering clinical and social support delivered through nurse visits from pregnancy up to two years. Call (805) 788-2068 to learn more.

Being part of a birth journey is something I never take for granted. It’s an honor to stand beside you, to hold space for your voice, your choices, and the incredible strength you already have within you.

Hearing these words fills my heart. To know that I helped someone feel safe, supported, and empowered in such a life-changing moment means everything to me. Birth is raw, beautiful, and transformative—and I’m so grateful to be part of it, not just for a moment, but for the connections that last far beyond.
