Happy International Yoga Day friends! Not a yogi? Hey that’s ok, it’s never to late to start practicing even if you never “feel” ready to begin. Being ready is a decision— not a feeling. If you waited to “feel” ready for everything in life, you’d probably never get anything done!
🤸🏻‍♀️
So what are you waiting for? Whether it’s on the mat or on the chair, yoga is a practice designed for every BODY, at every age and at every stage/season of life. Don’t take movement for granted— it’s a privilege!
🤸‍♂️
(And yes, she definitely has a favorite pose and it’s called Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana!)

I was texting with a longtime student who I haven’t seen in months the other day after she hurt herself skiing last winter. “When will I see you on the mat again?” I asked. “Never,” she replied. “I’m mourning my practice,” she added. “Then you need to pivot,” I said.

Just because you can’t necessarily do all the poses you could once do, doesn’t mean you have to give up and throw the towel in. I wouldn’t have chair yoga students if that were the case! I explained to her that she needed to remember non-attachment and transition into the next phase of her practice and that even if it didn’t look the same as it had for the last 10 years, the benefits mentally would be the same.

Pivoting is vital to growth, on and off the mat. Because how you do anything is how you do everything and if you’re willing to just give up on things, that attitude will eventually bleed into all areas of your life.

This is why I love tools like this inversion bench from . Who says yoga must be done on a mat? Nonsense! Almost all the poses can be modified to fit where you are at in your practice right NOW— that’s the beauty of yoga!✨ 💖 ✨

Happy Friday! Use the coupon code “niccola” to save 10% on this neat inversion bench.

Students frequently ask me how I stay motivated to practice yoga daily and the honest answer is, I don’t.

I don’t stay motivated, I stay consistent.

After almost two decades of doing yoga, my practice looks differently daily. Some days I practice first thing and for over an hour and some days I ease into it during the afternoon for a short time while other days I plop myself down on a cushion and just meditate.

And that’s ok because I’m consistent. It’s my yoga, my practice, my spiritual journey and I get to decide what it looks like day to day, month to month and decade to decade.

Namaste 🙏

Sending a VIRTUAL shoutout to all you teachers and students alike who are still holding space on this platform! Today is my two year anniversary 🎂 with my “zoomers” and I refer to them as and even though I have not seen or met some of them IRL, our connection remains REAL. 💗

My 3 favorite things about virtual yoga are as follows:
1. You can take class ANYWHERE. From your home, office, parent’s garage or in this case your VW bus Flossy. 🚌 And at any time, in different time zones, whenever you want— and many classes are live if not on demand.
2. You can keep your screen off (even though this bugs us teachers) which allows maximum privacy and those too insecure to attend an in-studio class, can do so at ease.
3. It’s pretty cheap. And in some cases donation based like all my classes on my website niccolayoga.com. Hey, I’m always looking for a good deal and I’m not afraid to admit it.

Hope to see you on screen soon! 📺 You can catch me every morning on Zoom so hit me up and I’ll send you the link info. ✌️

Your mind is your biggest muscle but don’t let it make excuses for you not getting to class! I know I know… it’s too cold out, there’s no parking, you’re tired, hungry, depressed, not in the mood… BUT today’s struggle is tomorrow’s success!
🧠
I’ve got you covered with audio class recordings and videos on my website ranging from 10-60 minutes. And you can choose between Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga or Chair Yoga. Practice in your home, hotel room or backyard— on your phone, tablet or laptop— no matter where or how you listen, it’s UP TO YOU!!!!

Repetition builds strength. I’m sorry to break it to you but strength is NEVER going to just arrive on your doorstep like a package from the UPS. To build strength you need to put in the effort and be consistent and practice, practice, practice.
📦
Self-care usually gets pushed to the side during the holidays because we’re giving, giving and giving. Even if it’s just for 5 minutes though, get on your mat and give back to yourself— I promise you’ll feel merry and bright!
🎄
I have tons of videos and audio classes on my site www.niccolayoga.com ranging from 5-60 minutes… a little something for everyone if you will. And I’m available for virtual and in person privates if you’re looking to give someone, or yourself, the gift of yoga. Happy holidays friends!

Last week I walked into the library and my favorite librarian said to me, “are you in the health industry? Every time you come in you are glowing and just radiating good energy.”

Yesterday while standing in line at the grocery store, the cashier said to the guy in front of me, “let’s let the young mom and her daughter through first.” So naturally I turn around, looking for this young mom, until I realize he’s talking about ME!!!! “Oh I’m 41 but thank you!” I said. And he replied “what’s your secret?”

My secret? Y O G A 🧘‍♀️ I’m back in the garage on Monday and Wednesday nights at 5:45 pm on Zoom for Vinyasa Yoga so if you want to glow and look younger, join me!

I got the best compliment after teaching class this week. A student said “Niccola, that was amazing and horrible at the same time!” I replied, “Fantastic! I like class to be comfortably hard and hardly comfortable for the students.”

Imagine your comfort zone is a small garden in the shadiest part of your backyard where there’s no sun and you forget to water it daily. Nothing grows or will ever grow there. But if you venture outside the box— we’ll, that’s where the real magic happens. Change is inevitable while growth is optional so EMBRACE CHANGE!
