Element Nutrition Co. For Kids

Element Nutrition Co. For Kids I help parents get their picky kids trying and eating more variety in a fun, positive way. Hey! for Kids. But all that can change and I am going to show you how.

I'm Jessica, a Pediatric dietitian and founder of Element Nutrition Co. After spending years working with kids and families in various healthcare settings I have realized that the typical “nutrition education” provided to parents rarely works. Because of this, I have developed my own framework for how I help parents get their kids trying and eating a wider variety of nutritious foods. What I once

thought was the key to nourishing kids has changed dramatically over the years. As a mama myself, I know how incredibly hard feeding kids can be. There is so much stress, guilt, and pressure that can come with each meal, especially when you struggle with a kid that only wants to eat certain foods. That is why I want to help you move from where you are now: stressed about meals, feeling unsure of your kids' nutrition and eating habits to where you want to be: having happy mealtimes where your kids come to the table and eat the foods you serve. Let's get started! You can message me with questions or book a call from my website.

5 simple ways to help if you find your kids fixated on sweets 🍭 🍬

1️⃣ It might sound crazy, but offer them more! Doesn’t have to be anything extreme. Find way to add them into breakfast, lunch or dinner.

2️⃣ Try adding them to mealtimes instead of open access during the day. This helps them see sweets equal to other foods but also doesn’t mess up appetite.

3️⃣ Try not to use the “sugar is bad for you” talk. All good has its place albeit in varying quantities. But they need to learn this over time!

4️⃣ Let them have a say in what sweets are being offered. Let them chose their candy, pick the meal they have them with etc. This all helps build autonomy.

5️⃣ Kids love a good surprise. Don’t always wait for them to ask. Offering them unprovoked by your kids goes a long way in normalizing them.

Consistency is key and this can take time if your currently down the sweets rabbit hole. Be patient with yourself and your kids as you make these changes.

You’ve got this! 💪🏼

It’s candy season 🍭 Does that stress you out? If you’ve been here a while you know my stance on sweets. But for those that don’t, I want to discuss it!👇🏻
Like anything else, the more attention you give to sweets, the more special they are, the more rare, the more they have to be earned, the more exciting they become.
When we normalize sweets, make them reasonably accessible and available without strings attached (*ahem, not only allowed IF something else is done first—like eating broccoli or finishing dinner) the less power they hold and the less obsessed your kids will be!
Are sweets a struggle in your home? Let me know👇🏻

I had so much fun this week with local parents & their kids talking about nutrition, having fun with food and helping kids develop healthy and positive eating habits from starting solids through preschool (and beyond).

It’s been exactly a year since I’ve been able to work with families in person and these classes filled me up so much! A beautiful way to transition into my maternity leave ❤️

Thank you to the South County Youth Coalition and First Five California (SLO) for partnering with me and putting on an amazing educational series for local families.

Also a big thank you to and for supporting the classes as well.

Do you have a kid that is dairy free? Even if they are not, this post is for you too!⠀⠀
Calcium, along with Vitamin D, is a key nutrient for kids. They have lots of bone growth going on, among other things.⠀⠀
There are lots of ways kids can get calcium without dairy! Including fortified dairy alternatives AND other foods.⠀⠀
One of the reasons cows milk is often encouraged is because it contains calcium carbonate, a form of calcium well absorbed in the body. Milk also has larger amounts of calcium per amount so it helps ensure kids are getting enough!⠀⠀
But the same can be true of milk alternatives if you know what to look for!⠀⠀
Some dairy alternatives and foods are fortified with less absorbable forms of calcium (like calcium tri phosphate). You need larger quantities of that form of calcium to get the needed amount.⠀⠀
If you are looking for dairy alternatives, read the label! Look for calcium carbonate. ⠀⠀
Also, try to get regular intakes of some of these other foods that naturally contain calcium.⠀⠀
How much Calcium does your kid need each day?⠀

👉🏻 7-12 mo 260 mg (formula/breast milk)⠀
👉🏻 1-3 yr 700 mg⠀
👉🏻4-8 yr 1,000 mg⠀
👉🏻9-18 yr 1,300 mg⠀⠀

Iron deficiency is one of the more common problems with babies, young children and teens.
We also know that iron deficiency in babies can cause neurological issues that show up later in life!
Low iron is typically related to not getting enough iron from the diet especially during periods of growth and physical maturation.
Are your kiddos getting these iron rich foods regularly? There are certainly more than this, but these are a few common ones.
