A great theological reflection on self-care.

"Writing back in 1974 in the Journal of Psychology and Theology, the psychologist Bruce Narramore dealt handily with the problem of guilt, sifting through a great deal of scriptural evidence to show rather emphatically that “not once in the New Testament is guilt used as an emotion.”

Writer Adam DeVille writes that “when daily life is disrupted in ways none of us has ever lived through, self-care becomes crucial not just for frontline personnel in hospitals, but all of us dealing with widespread and massive anxiety.” He notes that while we have been brought up to believe tha...

We at Mount Tabor Counseling follow the research to best serve our clients, and sometimes find ourselves quite surprised by the findings!

Reminder that each therapist at Mount Tabor Counseling is equipped to provide online tele counseling for anyone who wants or needs it.

New research out of McMaster University has found that cognitive behavioural therapy delivered electronically to treat people with depression is more effective than face to face. Dr. Zena Samaan is the corresponding author of the study.

Therapist Chris here. Theologian Adam A.J DeVille has compiled a list of psychoanalytic reading on the occasion of Freud's birthday. For any bookworms out there - this is a fantastic list of books. Moreover, at least two of us at Mount Tabor (Chris and Dcn Basil) can heartily recommend DeVille's book "Everything Hidden Shall Be Revealed: Ridding the Church of Abuses of S*x and Power."

Did you know that some research suggests frequent prayer correlates with higher life satisfaction and fewer depressive symptoms.

Prayer is not a cure for mental illness (absent God's miraculous intervention), and not a substitute for human relationships, including relationships with healthcare professionals like therapists, who God uses as his agents.

However it's worth knowing that prayer is part of God's plan for our mental health. 🙏

New research indicates that regular prayer can have many mental health benefits.
