Thank you National Down Syndrome Congress for another wonderful conference!

What a phenomenal time we had at the National Down Syndrome Congress in Orlando this past July! ☀️🌴 We are back at the clinic feeling inspired and so incredibly grateful for this community.

At Mann Method, our mission is always Bringing Practice to Science, and NDSC was the perfect place to do just that! We had amazing opportunities to present on crucial topics for our community, including musculoskeletal conditions, balance, and the exciting new research coming out about CVI.

We were also thrilled to present on the importance of feet and proper footwear! As our recent research has shown, utilizing supportive shoes with good medial arch and calcaneal support doesn’t just improve gait quality—it significantly increases gait speed and decreases gait deviations for adults with Down syndrome. We love sharing actionable, evidence-based tools that support lifelong mobility and independence!

A massive shoutout to Coach Hannah and Coach Helen for absolutely crushing another year of outstanding presentations! 👏 We are so proud of the expertise, energy, and passion you both bring to the table.

Beyond presenting, our favorite part of the trip was simply spending quality time together as a team and learning from the absolute best minds in the country. Because whether we are in the clinic, conducting research, or collaborating at a national conference, we truly believe that we are Stronger Together. 💙

Our bodies have several sensory systems that contribute to our sense of balance. People with Down syndrome often have differences in each of these sensory systems compared to people without Down syndrome. These differences can directly affect their balance.

Fortunately, much like there are exercises that improve muscle strength and cardiovascular endurance, there are also exercises that improve balance and stability. Our Resource Library has an article on balance written by Jennifer Spiric, PT, DPT, physical therapist at Mann Method PT and Fitness, PLLC, and Brian Chicoine, MD, from our clinic. It includes a list of exercises that can improve balance and stability with photos and instructions on how to perform them. The article is available at the link below.

At Mann Method, we believe that high-quality, evidence-based care should be accessible to everyone, no matter where they live! 🌍💻

As we continue our countdown to the National Down Syndrome Congress at the end of this month, we want to highlight how our team is Bringing Practice to Science through telehealth innovation.

In 2024 and 2025, our team was incredibly proud to co-author groundbreaking research on the effectiveness of online exercise interventions for individuals with Down syndrome. We know that consistency is key to progress, and our studies showed that a 12-week remotely provided physical therapy program achieved a remarkable 95% completion rate, 90% adherence, and strong participant satisfaction.

But it’s the real-world results that matter most! Our research demonstrated that these specific virtual physical therapy exercises significantly improved functional endurance, increased gait speed, reduced gait deviations, and improved community walking for adults with Down syndrome.

By establishing best practices and recommendations for online interventions, we are working to expand reach to underserved populations, increase access to physical activity programs, and support lifelong mobility and independence.

Have you or your loved one tried telehealth therapy yet? We’d love to hear about your experience in the comments! 👇

And if you’re heading to NDSC, make sure to add our presentations to your schedule. We can’t wait to see you there!

Did you know that the therapies we use every day at Mann Method are backed by our very own peer-reviewed research? 🔬🏃‍♂️

As we gear up for the National Down Syndrome Conference, Dr. Jen, Dr. Thessa, and I want to share a look behind the scenes at how we are Bringing Practice to Science.

In 2023, we were incredibly proud to co-author a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. In this research, we laid out how we developed a structured, physical therapy-based exercise program designed specifically for adults with Down syndrome.

Why does this matter for our clinical practice? Because it gave us a proven, evidence-based framework for improving the things that matter most for lifelong mobility and independence:
💪 Foundational Strength
⚖️ Hip Stability
👁️ Visual-Vestibular Coordination & Balance
🫀 Endurance
📏 Muscle Length

At Mann Method, we don’t just guess what works—we study it, we prove it, and we bring it directly to you. This is the exact kind of outcome-driven care we’ll be discussing at the end of the month at NDSC!

Which of these foundational physical skills are you or your loved one focusing on right now? Let us know in the comments below! 👇

At Mann Method, our science drives us, but our community sustains us. We truly believe that we are Stronger Together!💙

Our clinical outcomes are built on a foundation of evidence-based practice, but our daily success is rooted in our core values. In our clinic and online, we encourage each other, we respect each other, we support each other, and we include everyone. Together, we help each other be our best!

This commitment to community extends far beyond our own network. We believe in being outstanding collaborators, which is why we are incredibly proud to be an organization that has worked alongside:
✨ GiGi’s Playhouse
✨ National Down Syndrome Society
✨ National Down Syndrome Congress
✨ Global Down Syndrome Foundation
✨ Rocky Mountain Down Syndrome RMDSA
✨ Adult Down Syndrome Center
✨ Down Syndrome Connections Nevada
✨ GiGi's Playhouse El Paso

We are dedicated to bringing this collaborative spirit and our evidence-based research to the broader community. From winning the top poster presentation at DSMIG last year, to sharing insights at the Young Adult Conference, to helping bring attention to recommendations for musculoskeletal best practices in the Global Adult Medical Guidelines, to building the program, and our upcoming presentation at NDSC featuring the awesome Coach Hannah and Coach Helen—we are committed to working hand-in-hand with the best in the field to elevate care for individuals with Down syndrome.

When organizations, clinicians, and families collaborate, there are no limits to what we can achieve.

Who are you most excited to connect with at NDSC this year? Tag your favorite community partners in the comments! 👇

Dr. Jen, Dr. Sarah, Coach Hannah, and Coach Helen are thrilled to announce that we will again be presenting at the National Down Syndrome Conference at the end of July!

At Mann Method, our philosophy is simple: we are Bringing Practice to Science!

What does that mean for our families and fellow clinicians? It means we don’t just follow the research—we help create it. As both dedicated physical therapists and active clinical researchers, we are passionate about bridging the gap between top-tier academic research and real-world, life-changing therapies for individuals with Down syndrome.

Our approach is always:
🔬 Evidence Informed
📈 Outcome Driven
🤝 Better Together

We can’t wait to share our latest research, connect with this incredible community, and discuss how we can continue to elevate the standard of care for people with Down syndrome.

Are you heading to the conference? Let us know in the comments below—we would love to meet you there! 👇

Well…our commitment to increased access to information sharing through social media in 2026 hasn’t quite come to fruition yet! But, no time like the present to start implementing goals! 1. We want to share more about common orthopedic and sensory impairments for people with Down syndrome 2. We want to share effective PT and OT strategies to help with those common impairments 3. We want to shine the light on awesome people with Down syndrome who truly work hard every day to improve strength and independence in so many areas 4. We want to empower providers everywhere with effective tools to provide the best PT and OT care for people with Down syndrome across the lifespan.

We are increasing information through research, collaboration, and daily life and we are going to work harder this year to increase the access and impact of all that information!
