Sexual health in women is layered. We can dial up testosterone and other hormones when we treat with HRT (hormone replacement therapy), but we can’t fix poor lifestyle choices or bad relationship dynamics.

If you want to get the MOST out of your HRT, these are the MUST DOs that you can’t afford to skip!

1) Chronic stress has to be managed. Nothing displaces female sexual arousal more than stress. If you can’t manage it, find ways to reduce it, or learn healthy ways to cope with it. Reduce stress, and arousal can thrive. Stress mitigation has to precede sexual desire in women.

2. Women report greater sexual and relationship satisfaction when their partners share the mental and emotional labor of the relationship. You can’t be sexually drawn to a partner you’re resentful of. Or, even worse, a partner you feel emotionally and mentally responsible for (aka., “he’s just another one of my children”)

3. Research links unequal household labor with lower sexual desire in women. It’s hard to feel like someone’s lover when you constantly feel like their manager.
