Heart disease is the #1 cause of death for women.❤️
Yet, heart health isn’t talked about as much as it should be, in my opinion.
Today I had a Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) Scan as a baseline look at my heart health. It’s a quick CT scan that can detect calcified plaque in the coronary arteries and help assess future risk.
As we move through perimenopause and menopause, our cardiovascular risk can increase as estrogen declines and changes in cholesterol, blood sugar regulation, and overall metabolic health occur.
For me, this is one piece of a larger prevention strategy. A CAC scan doesn’t tell the whole story, which is why I also value regular blood work, keeping an eye on important markers related to cardiovascular and metabolic health, and having open conversations with my practitioner so I can advocate for myself.
Watch my video to learn more about this screening, what the experience was like, and why I chose to advocate for myself and ask for this screening. 💗
