Taping a mouth doesn’t teach a tongue.

Your mouth opens for a reason. A blocked nose. A tongue that rests low. A jaw that falls open.

Let’s find yours.

What if it’s a clue?

At dinner in Buenos Aires, the restaurant’s Halloween decorations caught my eye. Not the big display. The little details that brought the whole scene to life.

It reminded me of how I approach every functional evaluation. I look beyond the obvious, at small muscle patterns, movements and habits. Every detail matters. Every clue adds to the story.

When we connect the dots, we understand what’s happening and what may need a closer look.

A few small clues worth noticing:
Lips apart at rest
Snoring or noisy breathing at night
Chewing or swallowing that looks like work
Waking up tired after a full night

Which one have you noticed, in yourself or your child?

If one sounds familiar, my free quiz helps you connect the dots. Link in bio!! 🔗
Educational, not a diagnosis.

Your resting tongue posture is a habit — are you getting it right?

Tongue lightly suctioned to the entire palate, lips gently closed, and breathing through your nose.

It’s not just about remembering once — it’s about making proper tongue posture part of your everyday routine. Consistency is key!

Lunch at Croque Madame, in the garden of a palace.
I chewed slowly. Chewing is the first step of digestion.

Next up, a palace that was built for Josefina de Alvear and Matías Errázuriz, and finished during World War I.

Last stop, it’s the Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo.

Everything here looks like decoration. None of it is.
Every room stands on a foundation.

Your face works the same way. Its foundation is how you breathe, chew and swallow, every single day. At night, your mouth should remain closed.
Try this tonight:
1. Notice: do you wake up with a dry mouth?
2. Before sleep: lips together, tongue up.
3. Breathe through your nose.
A dry mouth in the morning can be a sign you breathed through your mouth all night.

Twenty-eight floors up, at Trade Sky Club.
A 360-degree view, and Buenos Aires goes quiet.

From up there, you see the whole map.

That’s how I look at a body.
The headache. The tight jaw. The snoring. The tired mornings.
Not separate problems.
One map.

Up close, you chase symptoms.
From above, you see the pattern.
Often, it starts with how you breathe.

One tip for your night out:
Alcohol relaxes the muscles that keep your airway open.
Enjoy your drink earlier.
Water before bed.

I gave myself a week in Buenos Aires.
First stop: the Japanese Garden. 🇦🇷

In a Japanese garden, nothing is crowded.
Every stone has its place.
Every path has a pause.

The Japanese call that pause ma.
The space between.

Then coffee at Selena, the restored house next door.

Here’s what I see in so many patients:
A crowded mouth.
A tongue with no home.
A breath that never pauses.

Your tongue has a home too: resting on the roof of your mouth.

Try this today:
1. Lips together.
2. Tongue up.
3. Breathe in through your nose. Pause. Let it out slowly.

That’s ma, for your body.

Magnum is demonstrating the power of a good chew!

For growing children, age-appropriate foods that require chewing help develop jaw, muscle strength, coordination, and oral motor skills. Chewing is an important piece of healthy, oral function, and facial development.

Meanwhile , Magnum is here doing his workout and brushing his teeth.. multitasking at its finest!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to provide functional evaluations for patients at Karande Biological Dentistry - Virginia

It was a great opportunity to bring another perspective to patient care and look at the connection between oral function, breathing, and overall health.
