Even when the temperature outside is just 70°F, the inside of a parked vehicle can quickly become dangerously hot for pets. In as little as 10 minutes, temperatures inside a car can rise by nearly 20 degrees, and within 1 hour, the temperature can rise to over 40 degrees. This means even on a 70 degree day, it can reach over 110 degrees. These temperatures can put dogs and cats at serious risk for heatstroke, organ failure, and even death. Cracking the windows provides very little relief and is not enough to keep your pet safe. If you're running errands or heading somewhere pets aren't allowed, it's always best to leave them comfortably at home. When it comes to hot cars, there is no safe amount of time to leave a pet unattended.

July is National Microchipping Month, making it the perfect time to ensure your pet has a permanent form of identification. Did you know that the 4th of July is the number one day for pets to go missing? Loud fireworks and holiday festivities can cause even the calmest pets to become frightened and run away. While collars and tags are important, they can be lost or removed, but a microchip provides a lifelong form of identification that greatly increases the chances of being reunited with your pet if they become lost. Microchipped pets are significantly more likely to make it back home than those without a microchip.

If your pet isn't microchipped, or if your contact information has changed, now is the time to update their records. Please give us a call at 336-328-1000 to ask one of our staff members about microchipping or find out how to update your pets microchip information.

Putting together a first aid kit for your pets is an essential step in ensuring you're prepared to handle minor injuries and emergencies at home or on the go. Here's a checklist to help you assemble a comprehensive pet first aid kit:

-Important phone numbers: (veterinarian, emergency hospital, poison control, animal control, non emergency police
-Bandage materials: roll gauze, adhesive tape, self adhering non-stick bandage material, scissors with blunt ends for safely cutting bandage materials
