Ruka Therapy

Ruka Therapy RUKA Therapy is based on a cohesion of different modalities to balance our your KA and align body and mind.
(1)

RUKA Therapy is my signature blend of advanced clinical bodywork modalities, developed over 25 years to support both soft-tissue function and nervous system regulation. In Russian RUKA means hand, the KA within it refers to our ancient energy of soul and vitality which has its own consciousness and responds to our conscious intent.

A client recently came in convinced they just needed me to “fix” their shoulder.

The shoulder certainly hurt, but as the session unfolded, something interesting became clear.

Their breathing was shallow.Their jaw was constantly clenched.Their abdomen never truly relaxed.

The shoulder wasn’t the whole story—it was simply where the body had reached its limit.
Rather than focusing on the painful spot alone, we worked with the body as a whole. As tension began to unwind and the nervous system settled, their breathing deepened, their body softened, and the shoulder started moving more freely with far less effort than either of us expected.

This is why I rarely chase pain.
Pain is often the final chapter of a much longer story.

When we support the whole system instead of treating symptoms in isolation, the body often responds in ways that can be both surprising and lasting.

Most people don't wait until their body feels great to seek care.

They wait until the headache won't go away.

Until the neck pain becomes chronic.
Until sleep becomes disrupted.
Until anxiety feels overwhelming.
Until their body finally starts screaming for attention.

But long before the symptoms become loud, the body whispers.

A clenched jaw.
Shallow breathing.
Tight shoulders.
A belly that never fully relaxes.
A nervous system that stays slightly on guard, even during moments of rest.

These subtle patterns often become so familiar that we stop noticing them.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is helping people reconnect with these early signals. Through nervous system-focused bodywork and myofascial release, the body is given an opportunity to soften, unwind, and return to a state where healing can occur.

The body is always communicating.

The question is: are we listening before it has to shout?

Deeper isn’t better. Calmer is better.

Most people think more pressure creates better results.

But the body doesn’t respond well to force when it feels unsafe.

When the nervous system shifts into a calmer, parasympathetic state:

• Tissue softens
• Holding patterns release
• Deeper work becomes more effective

That’s where real change happens—through nervous system work and myofascial release.

I’m currently studying Polyvagal Theory and applying it within my sessions to create a deeper, more effective experience, while continuing my study of John F. Barnes Myofascial Release.

Have you ever felt your heart race in the presence of danger, or experienced a calming sensation when surrounded by loved ones? Our body’s responses to different situations are not solely driven by conscious decisions, but rather by an intricate web of signals within our nervous system. One fascin...

Subtle fascial restrictions reveal more than you think. These early signs matter.

🌿 Understanding Subtle Somatic Symptoms

The body often shows early signs of stress through small but consistent patterns:

• Jaw tension in the morning
• Elevated or tight shoulders
• Shallow breathing
• Abdominal bracing
• Low-grade headaches
• Hip or pelvic guarding

These shifts reflect sympathetic activation and increasing fascial tension.
Left unaddressed, they can progress into more persistent pain or movement limitations.

Myofascial and nervous-system-focused therapy helps the body move into a parasympathetic state, where fascia softens and breathing mechanics improve.
In this regulated state, deep tissue work becomes significantly more effective because the body is receptive rather than protective.

✨ Subtle symptoms are early indicators—and highly responsive to targeted therapeutic intervention. ✨

If you’re noticing these patterns, you’re welcome to book an appointment or reach out.

I’ve been working to expand my skills in Myofascial Release (MFR) and myofascial massage, and I’ve seen positive changes in many clients. While pain relief tends to show up a few days after treatment, many report lasting benefits, such as improved movement and less discomfort during exercise. If you're interested in exploring a new approach to pain relief, I’d be happy to discuss how MFR may help.

I’m taking advantage of the post-hurricane downtime to attend another Myofascial Release workshop. I’ll be heading to Cape Cod for John Barnes’ Fascial Pelvis training. I’m excited about this opportunity to deepen my skills, learn more about the technique and philosophy behind it, and share the experience with friends and colleagues.

I’m especially excited to bring fresh techniques back to my clients and enhance their experience. Please take a moment to read this very interesting article on fascial release.
