A Milestone for Veterans in Western North Carolina
On August 13, Western North Carolina VA Health Care System Director Stephanie Young joined the Asheville Buncombe Christian Community Ministry (ABCCM) for the groundbreaking ceremony of the future Veterans Restoration Quarters (VRQ) — and it's a moment worth celebrating.
When Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, the VRQ — a facility built to give homeless Veterans a foundation to rebuild their lives — was damaged too. This groundbreaking marks the next chapter: the facility won't just be restored, it will be reimagined.
This groundbreaking reflects a partnership more than 20 years in the making. Since 2003, ABCCM has partnered with the VA through Grant and Per Diem funding, working side by side toward one shared goal: ending Veteran homelessness in our community. ABCCM will provide the housing and on-the-ground support; the Western North Carolina VA Health Care System's Homeless Veteran Program will provide healthcare, case management, and the coordination that helps Veterans move toward permanent housing and stability.
"Today marks an exciting milestone for our community and for the Veterans we serve," said Director Young.
Congratulations to ABCCM on this incredible milestone, and thank you for your decades of compassion, leadership, and service to the Veterans of our community.

The Western North Carolina VA Health Care System is proud to partner with MANNA Food Bank to support families across Western North Carolina through this year’s Mountain Cup Challenge.

Thanks to the generosity and commitment of our VA employees, WNCVAHCS donated 27,000 pounds of food to help strengthen food security throughout the region.

Our partnership with MANNA is rooted in a shared mission to ensure every family has access to nutritious food and essential resources. MANNA’s trusted distribution network makes it possible for each pound donated to directly reach neighbors who need it most, and our employees continue to show how deeply they care about the communities they serve and call home.

We’re grateful for this impactful collaboration and for everyone who contributed to making a difference across Western North Carolina.

The CLC Veterans came to PLAY today, and they weren’t messing around!

In an epic volleyball showdown, they bumped, set, and spiked their way to a 17–14 victory over the CLC staff. Let’s just say the staff might still be looking for where that last serve landed!

After the big win, everyone cooled off with Bomb Pops, because nothing says “Champions” like red, white, and blue popsicles on a summer day. Plenty of laughs, high-fives, and maybe a tiny bit of bragging rights for our Veterans.

What a perfect way to celebrate teamwork, fun, and friendly competition!
