π₯π Pre Labor Day Grill Safety: A Few Tips Before You Fire It Up!
Labor Day weekend means good food, family, friends, and hopefully a lot of time outside! Before you fire up the grill, take a few minutes to make sure you're grilling safely.
π₯ GRILL SAFETY
β’ Always use your grill outdoors and keep it well away from your house, deck, railings, branches, and anything else that could catch fire.
β’ Never leave a hot grill unattended. It only takes a moment for a flare-up to get out of control.
β’ Keep kids and pets at least 3 feet away from the grill.
β’ Keep your grill clean! Grease buildup can become a fire hazard.
β’ Using propane? Check the hose for leaks before grilling. If you smell gas, move away from the grill and call for help.
β’ Using charcoal? Never add lighter fluid after the coals are already burning, and make sure the coals are completely cool before disposing of them.
π FOOD SAFETY MATTERS TOO!
β’ Use a meat thermometer instead of judging doneness by color alone.
β’ Keep raw meat separate from cooked food and use clean plates and utensils for food that's ready to eat.
β’ Don't leave perishable foods sitting outside for too long, especially on a hot day. Bacteria grow quickly between 40Β°F and 140Β°F.
β’ Keep cold foods cold and hot foods hot until it's time to eat.
π And most importantlyβ¦
Don't let a great Labor Day weekend turn into an unexpected trip to the emergency room!
Take your time, keep an eye on the grill, and enjoy the food, the sunshine, and the people you're celebrating with. β€οΈπΊπΈ
