WNCCHS is deeply saddened by the passing of Brent Wyatt, a dedicated community leader and longtime member of the WNCCHS Board of Directors.

Brent joined our Board in July 2020 and served as Board Chair from May 2023 through December 2025. Throughout his years of service, he brought thoughtful leadership, compassion and a deep commitment to our mission and the people of Western North Carolina.

That commitment extended throughout our community. As Executive Director of Loving Food Resources, Brent worked tirelessly to support people living with HIV/AIDS, individuals receiving hospice care and members of the LGBTQIA2+ community facing food insecurity. Following Hurricane Helene, he also helped lead efforts to provide food, water and other essentials to neighbors in need.

We are grateful for the time, leadership and heart Brent gave to WNCCHS and to Western North Carolina. His impact will be felt for years to come, and he will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with Brent’s loved ones, friends, colleagues and everyone at Loving Food Resources.

The session offered an engaging, approachable look at sexual health, HIV prevention, PrEP, and the work WNCCHS is doing to expand access to this highly effective prevention option.

Staff were able attend either in-person or virtually. Thank you to Dr. Robinson for leading the conversation and to everyone who joined us to learn more about how we can continue strengthening HIV prevention and access to care across WNC.

As part of National Health Center Week, WNCCHS brought staff and partners together for our first Resource Fair at Minnie Jones Health Center.

Representatives from Operation Gateway , Pisgah Legal Services,Western North Carolina AIDS Project, ViiV Healthcare, Goodwill Industries of Northwest NC, Project Dignity of WNC and Exact Sciences shared information about services and resources that can support our patients — from career training and legal assistance to employment, reentry support, and other needs that affect well-being.

Staff visited the tables, asked questions, and strengthened connections that will help them better connect patients with support throughout our community. Patients were also welcome to stop by and learn more.

Thank you to all our participating organizations and to everyone who helped make our first Resource Fair a success. We are especially grateful to ViiV Healthcare and Exact Sciences, now Abbott, for supporting WNCCHS’s National Health Center Week celebration.
