Strong hips. Strong body. 💪

Thank you to everyone who came out for this one — a room full of runners, riders, and hikers all working to move better and stay out there longer.

We broke down how hip strength and control impact everything from knee pain to low back discomfort — and more importantly, how to actually fix it.

This is the kind of work that keeps you training, exploring, and doing what you love without getting sidelined.

Missed this one? Don’t worry, we’ve got more coming.

Your back might not be the problem.

If your low back gets tight on long hikes, rides, runs, or during strength training, there’s a good chance it’s working harder than it should.

We see a lot of people stretching and treating their back when the real issue is happening somewhere else—at the hips.

When the hips and glutes aren’t doing their share of the work, the low back often steps in to compensate.

That’s exactly what we’ll cover in our upcoming workshop, led by our PT Ambassador, Dr. Ben Hall:

Strong Hips, Strong Body: Why Your Back Hurts and What Your Glutes Have to Do With It

You’ll learn:
Why your back may be working overtime
How hip strength impacts movement
Common movement patterns that contribute to tightness
Practical exercises you can start using immediately

Perfect for:
🏃 Runners
🚴 Cyclists
🥾 Hikers
🚵 Mountain bikers
🏋️ Active adults

A huge thank you to Cane Creek Cycling Components and Dirt Skirrts for their Test & Tune event. I enjoyed learning so much about my suspension set up (as I didn’t know much at all!). They were patient as we made adjustments to our bikes, rode a loop, and made adjustments again. What a difference! Thank you for creating opportunities this to support our community in WNC.

STRONG HIPS, STRONG BODY

The foundation for running, riding, hiking, and everyday movement.

Do you notice:
• Low back pain during long runs, rides, or hikes?
• Knee pain that gets worse the further you go?
• Tight hips that never seem to loosen up?
• Feeling unstable on technical trails or uneven terrain?

The problem may not be where you feel it.

Your hips are the engine that drive movement. When they aren’t strong, stable, and coordinated, other areas of the body often have to pick up the slack—including your low back, knees, and hamstrings.

Learn from Ben Hall, PT — runner, former collegiate coach, Mountain Wellness ambassador, and sports medicine specialist dedicated to helping active people move better and perform at their best.

Join us at McHone Performance Training for an interactive workshop where we’ll cover:

✅ Why hip strength and control matter
✅ Common movement patterns that lead to pain and compensation
✅ How your hips influence your back, knees, and performance
✅ Simple assessments to identify weak links
✅ Practical exercises you can start using immediately

Whether you’re training for your next race, tackling big hiking days, riding mountain bike trails, or simply looking to move better, this workshop will help you build a stronger foundation for the activities you love.

One of the biggest myths we see in active women over 40:
“If I just work harder, I’ll get my results back.”
But many women aren’t struggling because they’re doing too little.

They’re struggling because they’re trying to recover from training, work, family responsibilities, poor sleep, and chronic stress with the same strategy they used at 25.

Before we talk about supplements, hormones, or changing your workouts, we often start with three questions:

💤 Is your sleep protected?
🍽️ Are you eating enough to support recovery?
🧠 Does your nervous system ever get a chance to slow down?

Recovery isn’t a luxury. It’s a non-negotiable for your active goals.

It’s the foundation that allows your body to adapt, build strength, maintain muscle, and feel good doing the activities you love.

Which of these three areas feels hardest for you right now: sleep, fueling, or stress?

Low back pain on long bike rides or even hiking usually isn’t just about a “tight back.”

More often, we see:
• fatigued core endurance
• limited hip contribution
• inactive glutes
• poor pressure management over time

Your low back starts doing extra work when other systems stop contributing efficiently. That’s why random stretching often gives only temporary relief.

For our bikers, we focus on:
✔️ hip strength
✔️ core endurance
✔️ glute activation
✔️ movement mechanics
✔️ overall load capacity

Because your body needs to tolerate hours in a flexed riding position — especially on technical terrain and long descents.
Strong riders aren’t just mobile.

They’re resilient.

If long rides keep flaring up your back, we can help you figure out why. See our link in bio to book a 15 minute consult with one of our PTs.

Ladies…pressure during lifts isn’t just “part of getting stronger.”

It’s a sign your system isn’t managing load well.
Your diaphragm, core, and pelvic floor are meant to work as a team — especially under heavier weight.

When they don’t, you feel it:
→ pressure
→ leaking
→ instability
We help active women build strength with their system — not against it.

DM us “core” if this is you or book a session to learn how to lift without pressure.
