Medical HBOT safety starts before treatment.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a medical treatment—not simply time spent inside a pressurized chamber. Before treatment begins, responsible care includes an individualized clinical evaluation and a treatment plan based on the patient’s medical needs.
FDA and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society guidance identify safety practices that include, among other measures:
• Trained personnel and appropriate medical supervision
• Patient monitoring throughout treatment
• Following the device manufacturer’s instructions
• Routine cleaning, maintenance, and safety checks
• Fire-prevention and grounding measures
• Careful control of items brought into the chamber
• Hyperbaric-compatible clothing and materials
At the Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment Center of Southern Oregon, our monoplace chambers are pressurized with air. Prescribed medical-grade oxygen is delivered to the patient through the appropriate delivery system.
These precautions are part of treating HBOT as the medical care it is. They do not eliminate every risk, and treatment decisions require an individual evaluation by a qualified healthcare provider.
