Traditional healing wisdom teaches that cultivating positive emotion creates profound physiological changes.

The practice of directing compassionate awareness inward has been shown to reduce stress hormones, improve immune function, and promote emotional resilience.

Try this:

Find a quiet moment. Close your eyes. Recall something that brings genuine warmth to your heart, and allow that sensation to radiate throughout your entire being.

This simple yet powerful technique can help shift your nervous system from fight-or-flight to rest-and-restore.

At Slow Paths Wellness, time-tested mindfulness approaches are integrated with comprehensive care for lasting vitality.

Begin your journey toward harmony and sustainable wellness.

Auricular acupuncture offers a small treatment with surprisingly broad applications.

This specialized form of acupuncture uses carefully selected points on the external ear and has been studied for—and is widely used to support—addiction recovery, trauma and stress, anxiety, insomnia, and pain management.

One of its strengths is its effect on regulation. Research suggests auricular acupuncture can influence autonomic nervous system activity, helping shift the body away from a heightened stress response and toward a calmer, more regulated state.

For people dealing with addiction, trauma, chronic stress, or disrupted sleep, that shift can matter. Many people report feeling calmer, sleeping better, experiencing fewer cravings, and feeling more emotionally steady.

Auricular protocols also have a long history in behavioral health and addiction recovery, where they have been used as part of broader treatment programs for decades.

At Slow Paths Wellness, we can incorporate auricular acupuncture into individualized treatment plans—or use it as a simple, gentle way to give an overwhelmed nervous system some extra support.

Experience gentle, effective support for your healing journey.

Parkinson's disease affects millions worldwide and is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder. Symptoms including tremors, rigidity, impaired mobility, balance difficulties, sleep problems, and cognitive changes can significantly impact quality of life.

Acupuncture offers another way to address Parkinson's symptoms while supporting the health of the whole person.

Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials have found significant improvements with acupuncture in areas including motor function and activities of daily living, along with benefits for some non-motor symptoms such as sleep.

And neurological health doesn't exist in isolation. Movement, sleep, digestion, pain, mood, energy, stress regulation, and overall physiological resilience are interconnected. A whole-person approach looks at where function can be supported and improved—not simply at a diagnosis or a single symptom.

Acupuncture has a long history of treating neurological conditions as part of whole-person care. Today, a growing body of research is giving us new ways to understand and evaluate that clinical tradition.

At Slow Paths Wellness, we create personalized treatment plans that look at the whole picture—your symptoms, your health, and the patterns of function that may be affecting how you feel and move through your life.

If you or someone you love is living with Parkinson's, we'd be glad to talk with you about whether acupuncture could be a meaningful part of your care.

Living with chronic illness can take a toll on more than your body. The uncertainty, limitations, and day-to-day work of managing symptoms can weigh heavily on your emotional well-being, too.

And acupuncture may help.

A 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis looked at 20 randomized controlled trials involving 1,462 people and found that acupuncture significantly reduced anxiety compared with both sham acupuncture and usual care or wait-list controls (Jang et al., 2026).

Why it works: Research suggests acupuncture may influence the nervous system and stress response, including pathways involved in autonomic regulation and inflammation. Translation: less chest-tight worry, more deep-breath calm.

What it feels like: Your shoulders lower, your breath deepens, sleep comes easier, and your inner weather clears a bit. You still feel like you—just with the volume turned down on the swirl.

If this sounds like the reset you've been craving, the team at Slow Paths Wellness would love to help you find your calm.

I just realized today is the day for the Forget-Me-Not Choir's first performance. So this is super last minute, but if anyone would like to go, they will be at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen at 2pm today and tickets are still available. They are just $5 each, and supports their mission to create quality music programming for people with neurological brain changes.

I have lived the patient experience described here and I've seen patients dealing with this same feeling. They've had symptoms dismissed as overreactions and being too sensitive because their symptoms don't match "standard" expected conditions. At Slow Paths Wellness, I specialize in helping people who have been treated like their symptoms are not real or are not serious. I know how it feels and I can help.

Stubborn pain often involves more than “something hurts.” SoftWave is not just “for pain.”
Painful tissue may be under-circulated, irritated, guarded, inflamed, overloaded, or stuck in a pattern where the body has not completed the repair process.
One of the reasons SoftWave can be so useful is that it is specifically designed to stimulate the body’s repair response in irritated tissue by sending acoustic waves into the tissue to create a biological response.
It is FDA-cleared for temporary increase in local blood circulation, activation of connective tissue, and relief of minor muscle aches and pains. At Slow Paths Wellness, I use that tissue response as part of a larger plan to create conditions where healing can occur.
The painful spot needs attention, but so does the person living with that pain.
Addressing immune function, digestion, nervous system regulation, inflammation, stress response, and incorporating compassionate self-care moves treatment beyond a temporary fix and toward more lasting healing.
If pain has been asking for more attention than you want to give it, message me. We can look at what your body may need next.
