Kinda chic: Private Practice Edition 🩶

08/04/2026

Mental health doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

When only a few of these pieces are fulfilled, we may still be left feeling empty or off-balance. Wellness isn’t a single fix; it’s a rhythm of small, sustainable choices. This month, we encourage you to pick just one area that may have been neglected and give it a little extra TLC.

Every piece matters, your wellness matters 🩶

For those local to Richmond, check out Heartfest_2025 for resources for each dimension of wellness.

In her most recent blog, Kyi Sterling writes about cultural awareness in therapy and why it matters. She offers suggestions on green flags and red flags to look for when seeking a therapist.

“Therapy shouldn’t be another space where you perform. It should be the place where you finally get to exhale.”

Starting therapy is hard — doing it while constantly explaining who you are makes it harder. Our new blog, “Finding a Therapist Who Gets It,” explains why therapy with culturally aware and humble therapist matters and how it shapes healing. Read practical tips for finding a therapist who truly understands your background and lived experience. https://wix.to/rpI028w

Let's be honest. Starting therapy is already a lot. You're sitting across from a stranger, trying to put words to something you've been carrying. That's hard enough on its own. What makes it even harder? Spending half the session explaining yourself before you can even get to the work.Maybe you were t...

As we celebrate Juneteenth, it’s important that we recognize how much systemic racism continues today. This is especially true in medical and mental health treatment and access. There is so much more to do!

Here’s an excerpt from our most recent blog on how much cultural awareness matters in mental health therapy:

“The Black experience is not monolithic, and anyone who tells you otherwise is already making an assumption…Cultural humility means a therapist knows they don’t have all the answers about your life, stays curious rather than presumptuous, and understands that systemic realities exist.” -Kyi Sterling, Resident in Counseling

In early 2025, I began submitting proposals & creating continuing education courses for ContinuED.

While ongoing learning & growth is a huge value of mine, being the creator and facilitator is super uncomfortable. But I know that the more we challenge ourselves to step outside our comfort zone and lean in to the discomfort, we build tolerance, resilience and trust in ourselves. And I do my best to practice what I teach - which is not easy at all! Shout out to therapy clients everywhere!! 👏

Today, I will be teaching a course on Navigating Perimenopause: Hormonal Transitions and Mental Health Implications. I am excited (and nervous) to not only share what I have learned in the research, but also to connect to, learn from, and grow with other professionals.

Here goes nothing 🤍

Counting down the days until I teach my CEU on perimenopause!

This is such an important and often misdiagnosed and misunderstood stage of life.

Looking forward to sharing research, clinical insights, and practical takeaways that can make a real difference in how we support women through this transition 🤍

Early registration is encouraged for next week's live psychology webinar on June 10: Navigating Perimenopause: Hormonal Transitions and Mental Health Implications. Reserve your spot today and don't miss it! https://bit.ly/4fabI8E

It's June 🔆🌈A Month of Visibility, Strength, & Support

As we move through June, we honor the diverse experiences, identities, and stories that make up our communities.

Pride Month reminds us of the importance of authenticity, belonging, and acceptance, while Men's Mental Health Month highlights the value of emotional well-being and the courage it takes to seek support.
