Judith Lorraine (Jensen) Hull, 87, of Ashland, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026. Born on August 10, 1938...
06/08/2026

Judith Lorraine (Jensen) Hull, 87, of Ashland, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026. Born on August 10, 1938, on the family farm southwest of Glenwood, Iowa, in the beautiful Loess Hills, Judy was the oldest of five children of Amos and Virginia (Slaughter) Jensen. She graduated from Tabor High School in 1956 and attended Commercial Extension School of Business in Omaha, NE.
While working the front desk at her first job at KMTV in Omaha, Judy met the love of her life thanks to coworker Paul Beavers, who introduced her to a young horse trainer from Ashland, Gene Hull. Their first date was as Paul’s guests at the Omaha Press Club Ball at the Blackstone Hotel in November 1959, and they married on December 18, 1960. For more than 65 years, they shared a remarkable life together.

Judy embraced the nomadic world of thoroughbred horse racing, learning (among other things) to clean stalls, walk horses, and travel the tracks. She and Gene not only moved their own horses but also transported others' horses to help defray costs. In 1967, with their close friend William “Hoot” Smith, they decided to take it one step further by founding Hull & Smith Horse Vans, Inc.
While Gene drove and handled the mechanics and upkeep of the trucks, Hoot was on the road building strong, lasting customer relationships, and Judy expertly ran the office - managing P&L statements, invoicing, permits, repairs, payroll, and more - as the company grew to a fleet of trucks and drivers. Her organizational skills and dedication were the steady backbone of their successful business.

Deeply committed to her community, Judy attended and volunteered at the Saunders County Fair and so many other 4-H events. She served as one of the Directors of the Saunders County Agricultural Society for 10 years and volunteered for nearly 40 years in total while also pouring her energy into the Ashland Arts Council, Historical Society, and Garden Club. She was so happy to be part of the efforts to bring a new/updated library to town, preserve local historical markers, and brighten Ashland with gardens, including the well-tended corner at the east end of Silver Street near the underpass. At home, her green thumb transformed their property into a showplace.

Judy’s passions brought her great joy. She developed a love for cowboy poetry, attending gatherings across the West and Southwest. An avid photographer since the 1970s, she advanced from a simple flash camera to telephoto lenses and won an array of ribbons/awards at the county and state fairs. She cherished trail riding on her horses TJ and Blondie, and especially loved parading with Blondie and her black buggy alongside the Hull & Smith mule teams, not to mention the many horse shows and rodeos along the way. A true lover of the arts, she enjoyed concerts, musicals, plays, and country music, particularly country music from the 1980s and early ’90s.

Judy is survived by her devoted husband of over 65 years, Gene Hull; daughter Jill; brothers Fran (Glenda) Jensen and Carroll (Suzie) Jensen; sister-in-law Lynda Jensen; brother-in-law Gerald Abbe; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Virginia Jensen, brother Alan Jensen, and sister Linda (Jensen) Abbe.

06/04/2026

M. Louise Troyer, 92, of Ashland, NE, passed away into eternity with Jesus on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Legato Living in Elkhorn, NE. She was born October 18, 1933 to the Hall family who lived on a farm in Broken Bow, NE. Louise was the fourth born child with one older sister, (Ruby) and two older brothers (Bob & Chris) and one younger sister (Arlene).

Her first paid job was at the Dairy Queen in Broken Bow. At that time, they used roller skates to serve food. There were many unpaid jobs set up for her by a teacher or the principal of her school which included babysitting, working in a restaurant with the promise of breakfast before she had to walk to school or even cleaning out pop bottles or separating hamburger for selling in the store. She was a doer, a hard worker, always looking for something to fix or clean.

Some evenings after working at the Dairy Queen, she would need a ride home and Kenneth Troyer would show up right on time to take her to her country home. Kenneth and Louise married on October 5, 1950. They moved into a small trailer and soon had their first child, Vicky Ann, then two and a half years later, a son, Nicholas Glen was born in December of 1953. Eventually they moved into a little white house for a few years before venturing to move to Ashland, NE. Kenneth worked at the Ashland National Guard Camp and Louise was a full-time mom and housekeeper while building their new home inside the gate of the guard camp and later building another home in the West Township of Ashland.

Louise was a lifetime member of the legion auxiliary, was a Boy Scout leader for Nick, 4-H leader for Vicky, also was on a team of voter workers for several years. In the 60’s and 70’s she worked at Preuss’s General Electric Store and the Silver Street Dairy Cone in downtown Ashland. Then on to Telex for the rest of her working life. Her grandson, Evan, helped her have planting boxes so she could have a garden close to her back door. In the last few years of her life, she planted Lilac bushes and took out three huge trees on the north and west side of her house with new smaller trees replacing them. She also had the front sidewalk and steps recemented. She was as busy as a bee at the age of about 90. Another quality about her is that she was very generous and not only to her immediate family. She was always giving away her treasures.

Louise was preceded in death by her mother and father, Victor and Nellie Hall, her oldest sister, Ruby, her two older brothers, Bob and Chris, her husband, Kenneth Troyer.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicky, her son Nick, her grandson, Evan, granddaughter-in-law, Jenny, two grandchildren, Joseph and Morgan, and Jenny’s parents and brother, Bob, Kathy and Mike Hill.

Troy Henry Judy was born on October 26th, 1962 in Grand Island, NE to Donald and Janet Judy. He entered into eternal rest on May 13th, 2026, leaving behind a warm and memorable life.

Troy spent more than 30 years as a mechanic and owner of Troy’s Automotive, where his work was more than a job. He was the kind of man who could fix an engine, tell a story, and make you feel welcome all at the same time.

Outside of work, you could find him cheering on the Huskers, listening to Elvis Presley, or talking to friends and family. Troy found joy in spending time with his family, and he especially treasured watching his grandchildren grow.

Troy’s faith was an important part of his life. It guided the way he treated others, the way he loved his family, and the way he faced each day with strength and grace.

Troy was the beloved husband of Julie Judy, and together they built a life rooted in love for their family. Troy was a proud father to his sons, Trenton Judy and Thomas Judy, and to his daughters, Julianna Judy and Isabelle Judy. He was also a devoted father-in-law to Sarah Judy and grandfather to Layla Judy, Ethan Judy, Charles “Charlie” Judy, Autumn Judy, Addison Judy, Sariah Chamberlin, and Winnie Watkins.

Scott Dennis Thimgan, 65, of Grand Island, NE, formerly of Calimesa, CA, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026. Scott was born on June 10, 1960, in Nebraska City, NE to John and Kay (Smith) Thimgan. He was preceded in death by his father, John; his mother, Kay; and his brother, Steven.

Scott is survived by his sister, Sheila (Chris); nieces, Cassie and Jenna; and nephew, Jake. He is also survived by his aunt, Mary, of Plattsmouth, NE; his uncle, Dennis (Sharon), of Rialto, CA; many cousins; and his sister-in-law, Tammy, of Yucaipa, CA.

Scott grew up in Calimesa, CA, and graduated from Yucaipa High School. After high school, he moved to Allen, TX, where he owned a construction business. He eventually moved back to Calimesa and continued working in construction alongside his father and brother, Steve, for many years.

Scott loved baseball. From playing catch with family at the local elementary school to Little League and throughout high school, the game was always a big part of his life. Whether he was watching his nephew play ball or cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the St. Louis Cardinals, baseball was something he truly loved.

Scott was a hardworking man who took great pride in everything he did. He had a talent for working on cars and seemed able to fix just about any problem that came his way.

Scott was humble, stubborn, and had a mischievous sense of humor. He knew how to make people laugh — you never quite knew what would come out of his mouth. He loved his family in his own quiet way, and he was loved deeply for being unapologetically himself. He will remain treasured in our hearts and memories forever.
