George Richard Schaub, Jr., 81, of Lincoln, NE, formerly of Ashland, NE, entered into eternal rest June 13, 2026 in Lincoln, NE, surrounded by family. He was born on December 30, 1944 in Newark, NJ to George R. Sr. and Margaret (Persch) Schaub. He attended Westside High School in Newark, NJ.
He moved in next door to Sharon LaMotta and her family. They started dating just prior to his deployment to Vietnam. When he came home, they got married on September 7, 1968. They had two daughters: Tracy and Jennifer, who were literally, their pride and joy.
After being discharged from the Army, George worked for UPS as a local semi-truck driver. When they moved to Ashland, NE, he worked for the NE Department of Roads and then at the Ashland National Guard Camp until his retirement.
They were members of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ashland and North American Martyrs Catholic Church in Lincoln.
George and Sharon enjoyed attending their daughters’ and grandson’s sports activities and traveling to Arizona to visit Jennifer and her family.
Underneath his gruff, quiet exterior, he hid a kind, generous heart and would do anything for his family and close friends. If he knew you well, he was never afraid to speak his mind.
He is survived by wife of 57 years, Sharon; daughters, Tracy (Douglas) Smith and Jennifer (Chris) Canterbury; grandchildren, Connor Smith (fiancé, Mylie Ketterson) and Cecilia Canterbury; two sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George, Sr. and Margaret Schaub; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Phyllis LaMotta; brother-in-law, Dan Rose.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who loved and cared for George during his suffering with Alzheimer’s Disease.
