Is your space truly accessible — for everyone?

At MCC Therapies, LLC, we help businesses, schools, and building owners in Northeast Ohio create environments where neurodivergent individuals and people of all abilities can genuinely thrive — not just meet minimum requirements.

As a pediatric occupational therapist with over a decade of experience and advanced autism-specific training, I partner with organizations to:

- Provide staff training on neurodiversity-affirming practices and sensory awareness
- Conduct environmental consultations to identify practical, low-cost accessibility modifications
- Support program and policy adjustments that make participation easier for all learners, employees, or visitors
- Offer guidance tailored to your specific space, staff, and community needs

Whether you're a school looking to better support neurodivergent students, a business wanting to create a more welcoming environment for customers and employees, or a building owner exploring accessibility improvements — MCC Therapies can help you get there.

📩 Reach out to start the conversation. Small changes can make a big difference.

Note: Recommendations are informal and intended to support inclusive practices — not a substitute for a formal ADA compliance audit or legal review.

Proudly serving Northeast Ohio!

This month, we honor the rich cultures, traditions, and voices within our Hispanic and Latino communities — including the many families navigating disability with strength, creativity, and deep love.

Across the country, Hispanic families play a powerful role in advocating for their children’s needs, pushing for language access, and building community support networks that make a real difference. Disability is part of every culture, and when we uplift Hispanic voices, we uplift the entire disability community.

At MCC Therapies, we celebrate:
1) Families who advocate in two languages
2) Caregivers who navigate complex systems with courage
3) Children whose identities include both culture and disability
4) Community organizations working to make services more accessible

Representation matters. Culture matters. Disability inclusion matters.
And this month, we honor all three.

✨ Holidays bring family, food, and conversations that matter.

This season, remember:
- Talking about sensory needs isn’t “extra,” it’s essential.
- Restrictive eating isn’t picky—it’s about safety and comfort.
- Explaining disability and assumed competence means reminding loved ones that every person deserves respect, dignity, and belief in their abilities.

These conversations may feel awkward, but they open doors to understanding. Families grow stronger when we choose compassion over assumptions. 💜

🌡🌧🌩🌤🌂Navigating Weather Changes, School Transitions & Tactile Sensitivities

As the seasons shift and school routines settle in, we know this stretch can feel extra bumpy for kids with sensory sensitivities — and for the families supporting them. New textures (hello, jackets, mittens, and scratchy uniforms), changing temperatures, and busier school days can all add up to big reactions that seem to come out of nowhere. Here are a few things that can help:

🧵 Prep the fabric, not just the child. Wash new seasonal clothing a few times before wearing, and remove tags early.

🎒 Build in a "reset" moment. A 5-minute quiet transition after school (before homework, chores, or questions) can prevent afternoon meltdowns.

🧤 Offer choices, not just instructions. "Do you want the fleece gloves or the rubber-grip ones?" gives kids a sense of control over their own sensory input.

🌬️ Watch for weather-triggered dysregulation. Wind, static, and sudden cold can be surprisingly activating for tactile-sensitive kids — a heads-up before heading outside can go a long way.

💬 Name it together. Simple language like "that fabric feels scratchy to your skin" helps kids build the vocabulary to self-advocate.

If your child is struggling more than usual as routines shift this season, you're not alone — and it doesn't mean something is wrong. It just means their nervous system needs a little extra support right now. We're here if you want to talk it through.

Wow. So glad we are in an age of understanding so information like this can be shared with the world!!!

When Vanessa Murad surveyed 33 occupational therapists who work with children with ARFID, every single one told her the same thing: families need a clear, compassionate guide, and it doesn't exist. So for her OT doctorate capstone at Yeshiva University's Katz School, she wrote it.

Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder can turn every meal into a struggle, and families often navigate it with little support. Murad's Parent & Caregiver Guide to ARFID, developed with ARFID specialist Anne Sinha, OTR, brings the OT lens to the whole mealtime: the child's sensory system, emotions, positioning, and environment, broken down into steps parents can actually use.
