September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month.

Five cancers fall under that heading — cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar. Cervical cancer is the one we can do the most about. Regular Pap and HPV testing finds changes years before they become cancer, and the HPV vaccine prevents most cases outright.

At Aspen Community Health, Pap tests are free for women ages 21–64 who are uninsured or underinsured and at or below 250% of the federal poverty level, through our partnership with Colorado's Women's Wellness Connection. We also offer HPV vaccination and colposcopies.

If you're overdue, or you've never been, we'd be glad to see you. Care is confidential, and no one is turned away for inability to pay.

We are sad to say goodbye to our talented family planning nurse, Brenda Oliver, MSN, RN, and also very happy to celebrate her years of dedicated service to the women of the Roaring Fork Valley.

Since joining Community Health Services in 2022, Brenda has led our family planning and STI programs and worked as a patient navigator, which is a plain way of saying she is the one who sat with people, answered the hard questions, and made sure nobody fell through the cracks. She did it with warmth, patience, and no judgment. Our patients felt that. So did the rest of us.

Brenda, thank you. This valley is healthier because you showed up for it. We are going to miss you.

We're grateful to announce that Alpine Bank has joined Community Health Services as a Partner-level corporate sponsor.

For more than 50 years, CHS has been the Roaring Fork Valley's front door to affordable preventive care — from Aspen to Parachute. In 2025 we served 2,409 people, our highest number in over a decade, and no one is turned away for inability to pay. Alpine Bank's support helps make that possible.

Alpine Bank has been a locally owned Colorado community bank since 1973, and this partnership reflects exactly that: local dollars, local care, local neighbors.

And Alpine's customers are part of this. The bank funds its community sponsorships through its Loyalty Debit Card program — every time a customer uses their card, Alpine sets aside a dime for local nonprofits. The program has been running since 1997 and has returned more than $24 million to Colorado communities, including $2.49 million last year. If you bank with Alpine, ask your branch about the Community card.

Thank you, Alpine Bank.

Interested in becoming a corporate sponsor? CHS partnership levels begin at $1,000 and include recognition on our website, in our newsletter and annual report, across social media, and in local press. Every gift is tax-deductible — CHS is a 501(c)(3), EIN 84-0609057.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month, and our schedule is filling with families getting kids ready for the school year. CHS provides childhood and catch-up vaccines — including the shots Colorado schools require — on a sliding-fee scale, so cost is never the reason a child goes unprotected. Commercial insurance is also accepted. Walk-ins are welcome and Spanish is spoken. If you know a family that needs shots before the first bell, send them our way. The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases also provides helpful information on which immunizations you and your family need, including the Top 10 Reasons to Get Vaccinated.

Request an appointment via the link below.
