For more than 110 years, Amberwell Atchison has been the primary healthcare provider for our community and region. Today, we're announcing the next chapter in that commitment: a 20,000-square-foot, two-story West Addition that will bring cancer care, expanded rehabilitation, and more specialty care close to home.

At the heart of the project is Amberwell Cancer Care — a dedicated, purpose-built home for oncology infusion and clinic care that our community has never had before. Each year, an estimated 200 to 300 people from Atchison County travel an hour or more each way for infusion therapy. The new program will change that, bringing cancer treatment close to home.

Amberwell Atchison will own and operate the program, working with Mosaic Life Care, whose oncology physicians and clinical direction draw on a well-established cancer program and the relationships its providers have already built here in Atchison. Patients can begin their care at Amberwell or coordinate treatment here while collaborating with another cancer center — the choice belongs to the patient.

The West Addition also gives our rehabilitation team a modern, purpose-built home — including a dedicated physical therapy gym and a monitored space for cardiac rehab — and creates new clinic space so more specialists can see patients here, without displacing the programs already using our current space.

Construction is expected to begin in fall 2026, with Amberwell Cancer Care welcoming its first patients in early 2028.

To invite the community to be a part of the project, we've launched Building Hope, a $2 million capital campaign supporting construction, equipment, and the launch of the cancer care program. Through a matching commitment, every community gift is matched dollar for dollar, up to $1 million. Amberwell Atchison receives no local tax dollars — every gift is a powerful choice that supports cancer care and rehabilitation services for the community.

This is more than a building project. It's a statement of what we believe: that the people of this community deserve exceptional, compassionate healthcare without having to leave home to find it. We had a special delivery today at both Amberwell Atchison and Amberwell Hiawatha! Rainbow Communications donated two charging stations to each location, so patients in our ERs and Primary Care clinics can use them during their visit.

Rainbow is such a great supporter of both Amberwell and the community. They truly act on their core values, which they share on their website: "We're deeply woven into the fabric of our communities. From delivering state-of-the-art technology to lending a helping hand, people always come first."

Congratulations to Sterling Jackson, our first Half-Court Shot Challenge winner of the 2026 basketball season! Sterling stepped up during halftime at Atchison High School, made the half-court shot, and took home $𝟱𝟬𝟬, sponsored by 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗢𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲.

Cory is well known to many for providing nearly 20 years of orthopedics and sports medicine care in the area, as well as for his years at Benedictine College, where he was a two-time football All-American. We are excited to have Cory join the team!

Amberwell is proud to recognize our Imaging and Radiology Services team during National Radiologic Technology Week, observed November 2–8, 2025.

To celebrate, the team created matching shirts that simply read “Radiology”. While understated, they reflect this team’s commitment to clarity, reliability, and focus in every interaction.

Amberwell offers Imaging and Radiology Services at Amberwell Atchison and Amberwell Hiawatha. Imaging and Radiology Services team members include diagnostic radiologic technologists, CT technologists, MRI technologists, mammographers, and sonographers. These professionals perform and interpret medical imaging studies that are central to nearly every clinical decision we make. Their work is often the first step in identifying health concerns and planning next steps in care.

At Amberwell, diagnostic imaging is more than a service—it’s an experience shaped by our commitment to providing clear information, calming environments, and responsive care. From bedside X-rays to advanced MRI, our team helps ensure that patients feel informed and supported through every step.

Each November, we take a moment to recognize the Amberwell Health at Home team during National Home Care and Hospice Month. This team provides care and support to patients and families wherever they call home—helping with recovery, managing health conditions, and offering comfort through hospice care.

The Health at Home team recently welcomed back Jennifer Klepees, who has returned to Amberwell as the Director of Health at Home. Jennifer brings valuable experience to the team and is committed to improving care for patients and families.

The group also has a new custom team shirt. It’s a simple design that represents the work they do and the pride they take in caring for others. Watch for posts throughout the month featuring our Health at Home teams wearing their shirts!

Health at Home at Amberwell includes nurses, physical therapists, physical therapy aides, occupational therapists, and occupational therapy aids, who work together to help patients regain strength and independence. Home health aides provide personal care and monitor patients’ well-being, while our medical social worker connects families with resources, financial guidance, and long-term care planning. Office staff make sure everything behind the scenes runs smoothly so caregivers can stay focused on their patients. Each member’s contribution to the team ensures our homebound patients receive the support they need right where they’re most comfortable.

As we head into the holiday season, Amberwell’s hospice care is offering its annual Remember Me Tree Ornament, a meaningful way to honor loved ones who have passed. In addition, the Remember Me Tree Ceremony will be held on November 30 at 6pm at Amberwell Atchison, giving families and friends a time to remember and reflect together.
