This NICU Awareness Month, we’re honored to share the story of Jonah Paul and the incredible legacy his family is creating for others. 🧡

Jonah spent his short life in the NICU at Piedmont Athens Regional, where his parents, Andy and Jordan Paul, cherished every precious moment they had with him. After losing Jonah due to complications of extreme prematurity, they searched for a way to honor his memory and support families facing similar challenges.

Through the Piedmont Athens Regional Foundation, they established the Jonah Paul NICU Family Fund, which helps provide guest house accommodations for families with babies receiving care in our NICU. By easing the burden of travel and lodging, the fund allows parents to remain close to their babies when every moment matters most.

During NICU Awareness Month, we celebrate Jonah’s life, honor the strength of NICU families, and thank Andy and Jordan for turning their loss into a lasting source of comfort and hope for others.

Olivia Kedzierski rang the bell at Piedmont Athens Regional’s Infusion Center, marking the completion of six rounds of chemotherapy and a major milestone in her cancer journey.

After experiencing abdominal swelling, Olivia sought medical care. Her symptoms and family history of ovarian cancer led to additional testing and an ovarian cancer diagnosis. Under the care of Ben Wilson, M.D., and the Piedmont Athens Regional cancer care team, she completed her final treatment surrounded by family, friends and caregivers.

During Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, Olivia’s story is an important reminder to know your family history, pay attention to changes in your health and talk with your doctor about your risk factors.

Join us in celebrating Olivia’s strength, courage and determination as she rings the bell and looks ahead to the next chapter of survivorship! 🧡

For patients navigating an unfamiliar diagnosis, a difficult treatment, or a stressful hospital stay, comfort can make a meaningful difference. Sometimes, that comfort arrives on four paws.

Through Piedmont’s partnership with Happy Tails Pet Therapy, certified volunteer therapy dogs visit patients and staff across metro Atlanta. Their presence can help ease anxiety, reduce stress, and provide a calming emotional connection during moments that may feel overwhelming.

By bringing moments of comfort and reassurance into the hospital environment, programs like pet therapy help create a more supportive, compassionate experience for the people we care for.

Their visits are a reminder that even small moments of support can have a meaningful impact on a patient’s experience. 🧡

When hip and leg soreness started slowing Mark McKay down, he thought it might be a nerve issue. His primary care physician, Dr. Korie, suspected there could be more to the story.

An X-ray revealed osteoarthritis in Mark’s right hip, setting him on the path to a hip replacement and physical therapy with Piedmont Orthopedics.

Recovery meant relearning some of the everyday movements most of us never think twice about, from tying his shoes to simply moving with ease. But with a care team Mark describes as “phenomenal,” he kept moving forward.

Today, the longtime 95.5 WSB traffic reporter is back on the air, back to doing what he loves and moving more like himself again.

For Mark, the road back started with a primary care physician who recognized there might be more going on.

Piedmont Heart is No. 1 in the Southeast. 🧡

U.S. News and World Report has named Piedmont Heart Institute the best program in the Southeast for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery in its 2026–2027 Best Hospitals rankings. And for the first time, Piedmont Heart ranks among the top 20 heart programs in the nation.

Piedmont Heart also earned “High Performing” recognition in all eight heart procedures and conditions evaluated.

“Placing among the nation’s top 20 heart programs and earning the top spot in the Southeast is a testament to the exceptional physicians, nurses and clinical teams whose expertise and compassion impact patients every day,” said Patrick M. Battey, M.D., chief executive officer of Piedmont Atlanta and a Piedmont Heart physician.

The recognition extends beyond heart care. Piedmont Atlanta was also rated High Performing in gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, and neurology and neurosurgery, placing it among the top 10% nationally for care in those specialties.

The annual Best Hospitals list is designed to help patients and providers identify hospitals that excel in the care they may need.

Primary care is often where the journey begins.

After noticing an unusual lump, Brad's primary care doctor quickly coordinated testing and connected him to the next steps, helping him get answers without delay.

Looking back, Brad says that timely, coordinated care put him on a path he never expected, but one he didn't have to navigate alone.

"The personal and competent care I received at Piedmont has put me on a path to healing so I can continue making memories with my family. For that, I am forever grateful."

Brad's story is a reminder that a primary care provider is more than someone you see for an annual checkup. They're your first call when something doesn't feel right, helping connect you to the care you need when every moment matters.

This fall, Piedmont Oncology will bring together community leaders, partners, physicians and supporters for the second annual Luminaria Gala on October 24 at the St. Regis Atlanta.

Presented by Brasfield & Gorrie, with support from Platinum sponsors Truist and Lockton Companies and Gold sponsors King & Spalding, Deloitte and the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital Auxiliary, the evening will help advance Piedmont’s commitment to cancer care across Georgia.

Led by honorary co-chairs Mary Kent and Jeremy Ellis, longtime supporters and champions of Piedmont Oncology, the evening will advance Piedmont’s commitment to cancer care across Georgia.

Proceeds from Luminaria help support continued investment in cancer research, innovation and programs that enhance care for patients and families throughout their cancer journey. Last year’s inaugural gala raised more than $1.2 million for cancer research and cancer wellness programs.

There was plenty to cheer for at Miracle Kids Night with the Columbus Clingstones, but one of the biggest moments belonged to Greenlee Lamb.

A former patient at the Piedmont Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital and the 2026 Children's Miracle Network, Greenlee threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game, surrounded by her family, care team, and a community cheering her on.

The clinical research happening at Piedmont today is helping shape the care patients receive tomorrow.

In 2025, 1,392 patients enrolled in clinical trials at Piedmont. By year-end, 357 active trials were underway across our system, with more than 200 providers conducting research. Behind those numbers are patients accessing new treatments, physicians advancing medicine and communities benefiting from care informed by research.

In episode two of Care That Connects: Innovation Edition, we’re exploring how Piedmont research is helping expand access, improve outcomes and bring new possibilities closer to home.

Five months after undergoing a quintuple bypass surgery, Greg returned to the place where his second chance began.

Only this time, he wasn’t arriving as a patient.

He ran past the hospital that helped save his life while taking part in the Peachtree Road Race.

Recovery isn’t measured by miles alone. It’s found in every step forward, every milestone reached, and every reminder of how far you’ve come.
We’re honored to have been part of Greg’s journey and grateful to celebrate this incredible moment alongside him. 🧡
