There’s a lot to celebrate at UCBC! 🎉

Our team recently came together to celebrate two meaningful milestones: being named the Athens Banner-Herald & OnlineAthens.com Community's Choice Awards winner for Best Cancer Center for the sixth consecutive year, and the third anniversary of our Comprehensive Cancer Center.

While these achievements are certainly worth celebrating, what makes us most proud is what they represent: a team committed to providing exceptional, compassionate care to our patients and their families every day.

From our physicians and nurses to our technicians, counselors, support staff, and everyone behind the scenes, thank you for the dedication and heart you bring to our mission. And to our patients, thank you for trusting us to be part of your cancer care journey. ❤️

This month, we're celebrating the Comprehensive Cancer Center's third anniversary!

As we honor World Breast Cancer Research Day, we want to highlight UCBC's dedication to clinical research. UCBC is proud to be the 2nd largest clinical trials program in Georgia, and the largest program not affiliated with a hospital.

Every breakthrough in cancer care begins with research. Clinical research helps us better understand cancer, develop new treatments, improve outcomes, and give patients access to promising therapies.

As Dr. Petros Nikolinakos, UCBC’s Director of Research, says, “Clinical Research is of paramount importance as it drives scientific progress, shapes treatment paradigms, improves patient outcomes, and paves the way for a future where cancer is better understood, preventable, and curable.”

Since she was 25, Mary Beth Smart has known that she was high-risk for breast cancer. After losing her mother to breast cancer, she made a decision: stay ahead of it, not avoid it.

Today, Mary Beth gets her routine screenings at UCBC's Breast Health Center, a dedicated center here in Athens, built to offer world-class care in a warm, thoughtful environment.

Her advice for anyone unsure about asking about their own risk? "Don't be scared. Be sure."

Our team was busy this past month! As summer wraps up, we have a few highlights from July we're excited to share.

⭐ Our team, represented by Anna Daniels, Kimberly Pittman, and Blaine Bostelman, was awarded "Best Cancer Center" by the Athens Banner-Herald & OnlineAthens.com! This is our 6th year receiving the award, and we're proud to be voted by the Athens community as the best cancer center in the region.

⭐ We participated in the Clarke County School District Convocation, joining staff, teachers, and community leaders to celebrate the start of a new school year. Our team promoted the importance of preventive screenings like mammograms and colonoscopies, proudly wore our signature pink mammography robes to raise awareness, and distributed 900 goodie bags in support of our local school system.

⭐ Select team members attended the Barrow County Health Fair to help educate attendees about the importance of preventive care. By sharing information on annual screenings like mammograms and colonoscopies, we encouraged community members to take proactive steps toward protecting their health through early detection.

Because both cancer and its treatments can have long-lasting effects on your immune system, staying up to date on immunizations is a crucial step for survivors. From annual flu shots to vaccines like Tdap and Shingrix, taking proactive steps helps protect your overall health.
