Happy Retirement, Joyce! đź’š

After 32 years of dedicated service, Joyce is retiring from Athens-Limestone Hospital. Throughout her career, she served in a variety of roles within our Environmental Services Department, including Environmental Services Aide and Environmental Services Supervisor.

Joyce played a vital role in maintaining the high standards of cleanliness and safety that our patients, visitors, and staff depend on every day. Her commitment, hard work, and attention to detail helped create a welcoming environment for staff, patients, families, and guests.

We are grateful for Joyce's many years of service and the positive impact she has made on our hospital and community. While she will be greatly missed, we wish her all the best as she begins this well-deserved new chapter.

In December 1977, hospital staff got quite a surprise when a Greyhound bus pulled into the hospital at 1:32 a.m. on a Wednesday morning! 🚌

A 19-year-old traveler from Cleveland, Ohio, on her way to New Orleans, stepped off the bus in labor. Just 43 minutes later, at 2:15 a.m., she gave birth to a healthy 5-pound baby girl. 👶💚

Her trip to New Orleans had to be postponed for a few days, but she received the care she needed while far from home. It’s one more memorable story from 75 years of caring for our community!

Some faces feel like home—and for many in our community, Casey Toone is one
of them đź’š

Meet Casey Toone, CRNP with Elkmont Community Care.

Casey’s connection to Athens-Limestone Hospital goes back more than two
decades. She began her very first nursing job at ALH, later started her
first nurse practitioner role here, and now continues serving the community
she has always called home.

For Casey, healthcare is about more than medicine—it’s about caring for
neighbors, advocating for patients, and treating every person the way she
would want her own family treated.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find Casey spending time with her husband
Tommy and their daughter—whether that’s on their farm, at a softball field,
or cheering from the sidelines at a volleyball game.

And something people might be surprised to learn? đźšś
Casey loves driving tractors.

🥤 Coffee or tea? Sweet tea
🍟 Go-to comfort food? French fries
🌄 Beach or mountains? Both
🌙 Morning person or night owl? Night owl

For Casey serving others means, “Prioritizing patient well-being, delivering
