"We did it differently when you were a baby."
Grandparents and experienced caregivers may remember different advice—and that's understandable. Safe sleep recommendations have changed as researchers have learned more about SIDS and sleep-related infant deaths.
Today, the recommendation is clear: every person who cares for baby should place baby on their back for every sleep—including naps.
Before leaving your baby with someone else, take a minute to talk about your safe sleep routine:
Back to sleep. Firm, flat surface. Empty crib. Separate sleep space. Every time.

Did you know there’s a sleep apnea treatment that works by gently moving your tongue forward while you sleep?

NURSE APPRENTICE SPOTLIGHT | Meet Maya!

From ALH Ambassador in high school to ED Tech to Nurse Apprentice, Maya's journey at Athens-Limestone Hospital has been all about learning, growing and caring for others! 💚

Maya is in her final semester of nursing school and preparing to graduate on December 15!

Her passion for nursing comes from a desire to make someone's hardest days a little easier. Now working in our Emergency Department, she loves the fast-paced environment, variety of patients and opportunities to strengthen her critical thinking skills.

💚 What has made the biggest difference in her journey?

The support of her ED family! Maya credits her mentors, coworkers and leadership for encouraging her every step of the way.

“Knowing that they see my growth and believe in me means a lot and motivates me to keep learning and improving.”

❤️ One of her biggest lessons: Learning to trust her knowledge, speak up and advocate for her patients.

Future goal: Continue her nursing career in the Emergency Department Shift
Fuel: Energy drinks, preferably 7Brew!
Work bag must-have: Chapstick — every shift!
Favorite shift shoes: Crocs Dylan Platform Clogs (she owns FOUR pairs!)

Her advice to future Nurse Apprentices?

“Take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. Stepping out of your comfort zone can be scary, but it’s so worth it.”

NURSE APPRENTICE SPOTLIGHT | Meet Caroline!

One 45-minute experience in a cardiac cath lab was all it took for Caroline to know nursing was her calling! 💚

Now a nursing student at Calhoun Community College, Caroline is preparing to graduate in December 2026 while gaining valuable hands-on experience as a Nurse Apprentice on 3 East at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

Already part of the ALH family before entering the program, Caroline knew she wanted to continue learning alongside the coworkers she loves.

💚 What has made the biggest difference in her journey? Her mentor, Terri Moss!
“She has also been my biggest cheerleader, never failing to encourage me and keep me motivated through the challenging semesters of school.”

❤️ A moment she'll never forget: A retired nurse she cared for told Caroline that one day she would be an extraordinary nurse. Those words of encouragement have stayed with her ever since!

Future goal: Critical care and eventually the cardiac cath lab

Shift fuel: Energy drinks!

Always in her work bag: Chapstick and a million pens

Favorite shift shoes: Hoka

Caroline says the apprenticeship has helped her confidence skyrocket through real patient experiences, hands-on training and one-on-one mentoring.

And her advice to nursing students considering the program? “Without hesitation, DO IT! This has been the most amazing opportunity!”

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Navjot Dhoat to the Athens-Limestone family! 💚

Dr. Dhoat is joining Eastside Family Medicine, where he’ll be caring for patients and families throughout our community.

Meet Navjot Dhoat, MD

Dr. Navjot Dhoat's path to Family Medicine has taken him from Houston, Texas, to medical school in England and residency training in Arizona.
Those experiences have helped shape the thoughtful, well-rounded approach he brings to caring for patients at Eastside Family Medicine.

For Dr. Dhoat, good care starts with listening. He believes in taking the time to understand each patient's concerns, lifestyle and health goals while using evidence-based medicine, preventive care and shared decision-making to create a plan that works for them.

One of the things he enjoys most about Family Medicine is the opportunity to care for patients through different stages of life and build lasting relationships with individuals and families over time.

Outside of the office, Dr. Dhoat enjoys traveling with his wife, exploring new restaurants, technology and - for the car lovers out there - automobiles. He's a self-described car enthusiast who enjoys learning about different vehicles.

And medicine is a family affair in the household: his wife is also a physician, specializing in Internal Medicine. Together, they're excited to call the Athens area home and serve the community.

Some of the hardest-working teams are also the hardest to catch standing still long enough for a picture!

Over the past several weeks, we've celebrated special recognition weeks for two of our essential support service teams — Environmental Services and Food Services! 💚

Our Environmental Services team does so much more than keep our hospital clean! They play a vital role in maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for our patients, visitors, and employees. They're always on the move, working behind the scenes and stepping up to support our clinical teams in any way they can. Their hard work, teamwork, and willingness to lend a hand make a difference every single day!

Our Food Services team goes above and beyond to care for our patients and employees! In addition to preparing and serving meals, they bring a little extra joy to our hospital with creative themed menus, special treats, and fun celebrations that show our employees just how much they're appreciated. They put a lot of heart into everything they do!

These teams may not always be in the spotlight, but they are an important part of what makes Athens-Limestone Hospital special.

Meet Uma Davuluri, MD

Dr. Uma Davuluri's journey in medicine has taken her across the world - from growing up in India, to completing medical school in the Philippines, to finishing her Internal Medicine residency in Texas. Along the way, those experiences have shaped the compassionate, patient-centered approach she brings to her practice today.

For Dr. Davuluri, good care starts with listening. She wants her patients to feel comfortable asking questions, understand their health, and feel confident taking an active role in their care. She especially enjoys preventive medicine, helping patients manage chronic conditions, and building relationships that last over time.

Outside of work, Dr. Davuluri loves traveling, exploring new places and trying new restaurants - especially Indian and Asian cuisine. And medicine is a family affair in her household: her husband is also a physician, specializing in Family Medicine.

Dr. Davuluri says she and her husband are excited to call the Athens community home, and she looks forward to getting to know the patients and families she serves.
