What exactly is IOP?

Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) is a structured mental health program that combines group therapy, individual therapy, psychiatric support, and practical skill-building throughout the week.

For many young adults, it provides the consistency, connection, and support needed to create meaningful change.

At Stillwell, our IOP is designed for young adults navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, and other mental health concerns while continuing to live at home and engage in daily life.

We often talk about anxiety and depression as individual problems. But many young adults are responding to very real pressures: achievement expectations, questions about purpose, and concerns about the future.

According to a recent study from Harvard, the most commonly reported drivers of poor mental health among young adults are pressure to achieve, feeling uncertain about direction and purpose, and stress related to finances and other adult responsibilities.

Understanding what contributes to distress can help us move beyond asking, “What’s wrong with me?” and toward asking, “What am I carrying?”

At Stillwell IOP, we often work with young adults who are navigating exactly these challenges. Our program is designed to provide structured support while helping participants build coping skills, strengthen relationships, clarify values, and develop a greater sense of direction and confidence in daily life.

Young adulthood can be exciting, meaningful, overwhelming, and destabilizing all at once.

Many young adults continue going to class, working, socializing, or meeting expectations while quietly struggling underneath the surface. Mental health changes are not always obvious, especially during major life transitions.

Sometimes what looks like “normal stress” may actually be anxiety, burnout, depression, emotional overwhelm, or difficulty coping day to day.

Support does not have to wait until things reach a crisis point.

Stillwell Athens provides therapy and Intensive Outpatient support for young adults navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, life transitions, and emotional dysregulation. Visit stillwellathens.com to learn more 🔗

Summer break can be a relief… until the structure disappears.

A lot of young adults come home from school or step out of a busy semester and suddenly realize how burned out, anxious, disconnected, or overwhelmed they actually feel.

Stillwell IOP offers more consistent support throughout the week through therapy, peer connection, skills work, and experiential groups designed specifically for young adults.

Groups focus on things like:

• emotional regulation and coping skills
• routines and executive functioning
• relationships and communication
• identity and self-worth
• grounding and nervous system support
• navigating transitions and next steps

Summer can be a chance to reset, rebuild routines, and get support before things hit a crisis point. Visit stillwellathens.com to learn more about how we support young adults in times of transition or stress.

Trying to manage your mental health while keeping up with daily life can feel like a lot.

Some people need more support than weekly therapy, but do not need inpatient care.

Stillwell’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a 12-week program designed for young adults navigating life transitions. The program meets multiple days a week and includes group therapy, individual therapy, executive function coaching, and psychiatric support.

Treatment is structured to help you better understand your patterns, build practical skills, and create meaningful change over time all while while staying engaged in your daily life, whether that is school, work, or other responsibilities.

End of the week check-in🤍Before you head into the weekend, pause for a second⏸️

Weekend reset, not weekend escape.

A few small ways to take care of yourself:
•get outside, even for 10 minutes
•text someone who feels easy to be around
•keep one anchor (wake-up time, coffee walk, workout, breakfast meal)
•take breaks between studying
•check in with your body before saying yes to plans
•notice when your mind starts comparing and gently come back to yourself
•give yourself a social limit (it’s okay to leave early)
•stay aware of substances + how they actually impact your mood
•build in a quiet moment somewhere

Take care of yourself.
