🌿 How We Make It (WORK) Monday 🌿

Usually, Mondays are dedicated to what goes into the bottle or the jar, but today, we’re taking a detour.

Every Deeded Oaks product you take home starts inside ours and the only assembly line you’ll find here is whatever family members I recruit to help count drops or fill jars. Our production facility is our kitchen counter, and our warehouse is our home. 🏡

And I think sometimes it’s easy to overlook what a gift that really is.

Our home is where we learn, grow, pray, make memories, care for each other, cook supper, tackle the laundry, and figure life out as we go. And right alongside all of that, we make soap, whip body butter, fill bottles, and stick on labels.

Somewhere along the way, the same place where we care for one another became the place where we make things to care for your families and homes, too. How incredible is that?

Now, the other side of this story is that Deeded Oaks has slowly taken over my house. 😂 … and I’m okay with that.

With the website coming, I knew I needed more inventory so I’ve been busy behind the scenes. What started over a decade ago as a small box of supplies had gradually turned into shelves, then took over the dining room, and now has spilled into the foyer. Nothing says “Welcome” quite like amber bottles and bars of soap lining the entryway.

Yesterday, standing in the middle of it all, I realized I had just made 272 ounces of body butter, 36 tubes of lip balm were setting, four batches of soap were in the works, and 20 bottles of hydrosol were waiting to be labeled.

I looked around and thought…

I clean up messes just to make more messes. 😂

But really, that’s what making it looks like.

The pretty jar and label come at the end, but the mess comes in the middle.

And mixed right into that mess is our regular life.
Supper dishes and soap dishes.
Family and business.
The ordinary and the dreaming.
Our home gets to hold both.

Yes, there are bottles in my foyer. Yes, I clean one mess just in time to make another. Yes, it’s my dream.

I’m grateful for this season.
For the “mess”.
For the growth.
For the now.
For the future.
For you.
For the opportunity to make things in our home that eventually find their way into yours.

🤎

Maybe one day I’ll show you the before, but for now, enjoy the shelves that are getting stocked as we get ready to launch 🚀 💻

Hello August and SURPRISE. ‼️
WE MADE A NEW SCENT. 🍂👋

And no… you didn’t miss an announcement.

We didn’t announce it.
We didn’t tease it.
We didn’t drop hints.

We have been keeping this one completely under wraps because sometimes it’s more fun to just surprise y’all. 😉

Meet AUTUMN AIR. 🍂✨ Debuting TODAY — August 1!

I created Autumn Air right in the middle of summer because there is this very specific little window of time when you’re ready for a hint of fall… but you are absolutely NOT ready to start smelling like you’ve been baking cinnamon rolls since July.

I wanted something that felt crisp, warm, woodsy and just a little bit citrusy. Something that could carry us from those long summer days into the first little whispers of fall.

So I blended:

🍊 Tangerine — bright and fresh
🍋 Bergamot — citrusy, slightly floral and clean
🌲 Cedarwood — warm, earthy and woodsy

The result?

It smells like that first little hint that fall is coming without jumping straight into cinnamon, while strolling the pumpkin patch drinking cider. 😂

Autumn Air is debuting today in two of our favorites:

🍂 Autumn Air Room Spray
🍂 Autumn Air Household Cleaner (and refills!)

This one was a total surprise, but I have a feeling it may become a favorite. Autumn Air is officially here and at the farmstand today 🍂

🌿 Why Wednesday

Why do we make everything in small batches?

Because Deeded Oaks was never meant to be about production, but creation.

And there’s a difference.

Everything we make starts in our home. This is where ideas are dreamed up, recipes are tested, ingredients are considered, and sometimes things don’t turn out quite the way we hoped. 😂

It’s also where the good stuff happens.

It’s where we talk about what could be better. Where we tweak a recipe. Where we decide an ingredient isn’t quite right and go back to the drawing board. Where something we’ve been making for ourselves becomes something we’re excited to share with someone else.

Our home has become a shared space for creating something with purpose. It’s a safe place with a whole lot of love poured into that space.

That’s one of the reasons we choose to make everything in small batches.

When you’re making things by hand in your home, you have to slow down. You notice the little things. You have the opportunity to tweak a recipe, reconsider an ingredient, let your friends try it out for a while, or simply decide that something isn’t quite where you want it to be yet.

We don’t make more just to have more. We make what we can make well.

And when something leaves our home and makes its way into yours, we want it to carry the same care and thoughtfulness we would want for our own family.

And if you ever get something from us that doesn’t meet that standard, please tell us. Seriously.

We want to know.

We want you to feel confident in what you’re bringing into your home, and we’re going to stand behind the things we make.

Now, I’ll be honest with you about one thing…

This Alabama summer heat has me a little nervous about the body butter. 😂 Please don’t leave it in your car. 🤦‍♀️

(Take it inside, y’all. I am begging you.)

But seriously if something doesn’t seem right, reach out. Sometimes there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation, sometimes there’s something we need to learn from, and either way, we want to hear from you.

Small batches. Thoughtfully chosen ingredients. Lots of hands-on work. And a whole lot of heart. 🤎

🌿 How We Make It Monday 🌿

Oops. Sometimes... we make a mess.

What you see here is what happened when I looked away for about 30 seconds. Thirty. Seconds.

Apparently, that was all the body butter needed to decide to whip a little too good. 😂

Welcome to handmade. Not every batch looks like perfectly labeled jars and beautiful product photos. Sometimes it looks like this. Behind the scenes.

Sometimes it looks like tallow on the counter, on the spatula, on my shirt... and somehow, even in my hair. If my skin ever looks extra moisturized, it is probably because I was cleaning up tallow the night before.

The good news? This is exactly what small-batch production looks like. Every jar is mixed, whipped, poured, and labeled by hand. There are no assembly lines here but lots of measuring, mixing, cleaning... and the occasional escaped body butter... and undoubtably, a whole lot of care.

We'll happily wipe down the mixer, scrape the shea butter off the counter for 6 days, and laugh at ourselves if it means every jar is made with the same care we'd want for our own family.

Because behind every finished product is a little bit of chaos...
..and a whole lot of love. 🤎 That's how we make it.

P.S. The body butter was controlled and every jar in the house was filled😅

🌿 Why Wednesday

Why do ingredients matter so much to us?

Our journey didn’t begin because we wanted to start a business.

It began because we wanted to know what was in the products we were bringing into our home.

Long before it became a trend, we started paying closer attention to ingredient labels for our family’s health. The more we learned, the more questions we asked. We wanted to understand what we were using every day and make more informed choices about what we kept in our home.

That created a two-fold challenge.

We needed products we felt good about using, but there weren’t many options readily available. And the few we could find were often far beyond what we could afford or they were being bought out by companies with different values and ever-changing ingredient lists.

So, we started making our own.

Nearly every product you’ll find at Deeded Oaks was born from a need our own family had first. We didn’t sit down and ask, “What should we sell?” We asked, “What do we need?”

A household cleaner we could trust. A body butter that worked the way we wanted it to. A hydrosol we couldn’t find anywhere else. A room spray made with ingredients we felt good about bringing into our home. A soap with 3 ingredients.

And after every identified need, we get to work.

Over the years, there has been refining, learning, and experimenting because if it isn’t good enough for our home, it isn’t good enough for yours.

That’s why you’ll often hear us say we use thoughtfully chosen ingredients. We don’t follow trends or create products just to fill a shelf. They meet a need. Every ingredient has been selected with intention because our family uses these products too.

At the end of the day, that’s what Deeded Oaks is all about. 🤎
