What if your body is telling a story your mind hasn't fully learned to hear?

A brand-new episode of Meaningful Happiness just dropped, and this conversation took me to some fascinating places.

I sat down with Elicia Woodford, founder of Core Emotional Healing and author of Free to Be Me, to explore why people with similar experiences often heal, connect, and grow in dramatically different ways.

Together, we dive into emotional archetypes, attachment patterns, body wisdom, trauma adaptation, and the surprising ways our earliest experiences continue shaping our relationships today.

What I found most compelling is that although we come from very different traditions and frameworks, we kept arriving at the same conclusion: healing isn't just something we think our way into. It is something we learn to experience, embody, and practice.

If you've ever wondered why certain relationship patterns keep repeating, why some reactions seem larger than the situation at hand, or how deeper self-awareness can lead to more authentic connection, I think you'll find a lot to reflect on in this episode.

What if your body is holding memories your mind cannot access?

In this conversation, Dr. Scott Conkright sits down with therapist Matt Tomatz for a deeply thoughtful episode on shame, attention, music, vulnerability, and the ways our bodies remember what our minds may not fully understand yet.

Together, Scott and Matt explore how shame can quietly shape the way we listen, connect, perform, withdraw, and protect ourselves. They move through stories of music, childhood, philosophy, live performance, and psychotherapy to ask a powerful question: what happens to our relationships when attention gets narrowed by shame?

Matt brings his experience working with musicians, including professional performers and students in classical and jazz training, to explore how creativity and vulnerability can be interrupted by criticism, misattunement, and fear. Scott connects this to his developing work on affect, emotional patterns, and the archetypes that shape how we move toward or away from connection.

This is not a surface-level conversation about confidence or performance. It is a grounded, honest look at how shame lives in the body, how it narrows enjoyment, and how presence can help us return to connection.

In this episode, you will hear Scott and Matt discuss:

• Why attention shapes emotional experience
• How shame interrupts interest, joy, and connection
• What musicians can teach us about presence and vulnerability
• How early shame may influence adult relationship patterns
• Why the body often remembers before the mind can explain
• The difference between healthy shame and toxic shame
• How we can begin to notice, repair, and reconnect

If you are interested in emotional intelligence, psychology, relationships, music, vulnerability, self-awareness, personal growth, or the deeper work of becoming more fully alive, this episode will stay with you.

Watch the full conversation and notice what your own attention begins to reveal.
