The Back!
Yes, melanomas on the back are the most common location for men! And this is an area often overlooked by many. Be sure to check your back with a mirror at least once a month, or enlist a spouse or partner to help you look at your back. Any dark, new, or changing mole deserves a closer look with your board-certified dermatologist! 🕵️♂️
This patient had several melanomas on his back. Thankfully, his dermatologist picked up on these quickly, and we were able to remove them in-office without needing additional tests.
Have you checked out your back recently? Here’s how to do it:
1) Grab a handheld mirror. 🪞
2) Remove your shirt and face away from a mirror, such as in your bathroom.
3) Look into your handheld mirror and begin to survey your back.
4) Make note of any new or dark spots.
Call your dermatologist if you notice anything suspicious.
