The questions facing health care's clinical leaders right now aren't simple. How do we use technology to reach patients in underserved communities? How do we keep physician culture grounded in mission during rapid change?

These are exactly the conversations happening at the HealthLeaders CMO Exchange this September, and our EVP and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Rodolphe Taby, will be part of them.

Draft Day is one of our favorite days of the year.

Last week, we joined Cristo Rey Atlanta for their annual Draft Day where students find out which corporate partner they'll be joining for the year. We brought the energy, and we are so excited to welcome our newest Cristo Rey team members to SCP Health's Atlanta office!

Through the Cristo Rey Work Study Program, students spend one day a week working alongside professionals throughout all four years of high school. We're honored to be part of their journey.

Welcome to the SCP Health family!

Patients feel coverage changes before anyone else does.

When health care finance executives gathered in Dallas this week to talk through what the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" means in practice, SCP Health's Chief Revenue Officer Keith Cantrell was at the table, speaking to what it means for the patients and communities health systems serve.

His message was clear: the work of keeping care accessible starts with building the financial foundation to sustain it. And that work can't wait.

Grateful for leaders who show up for those conversations.

ACEP26 is coming to Chicago this October, and so are we.

SCP Health will be at the Scientific Assembly, connecting with the emergency medicine community and investing in the conversations that matter most to clinicians and the specialty we're proud to support.

If you'll be in Chicago October 5-8, we hope to see you there.

Our medical directors keep raising the bar, and we keep investing in them.

Last week, a group of SCP Health medical directors came together for the Medical Leadership Intensive II, the next chapter in their leadership journey and the first class ever to reach this level. We're proud of how far this group has come and excited to see where they go next.

What does it look like when technology and clinical expertise meet an unexpected surge?

SCP Health's Dr. Claire Smith recently joined the Empowered Patient Podcast to talk telehospitalists—how virtual hospitalist care supports health systems during high-demand moments and ensures patients still get the quality care they need.

Dr. Smith leads regionally and still practices clinically, bringing a grounded, real-world perspective to the conversation.

This week for Physician Family Day, we're sharing words from some of our physicians. Today, we hear from Dr. Bentley Tate, SCP Health's Chief Wellness Officer, and someone who has spent his career thinking deeply about what sustains physicians for the long haul.

To my family (my wife of 31 years, S, and my 4 kids all in your 20's).

For a long time I thought you (mostly you kids) were regularly causing me to "lose my mind." You've heard me say I often told the ER nurses, "I come here to rest up from my home life."

Looking back you didn't always make life more restful for me but you gave it far more meaning and stability. I now see you were breathing life into me rather than sucking it from me.

Thanks for not being impressed that I was a doctor (or doing a great job of hiding it if you were). You have served me well by showing me you cared about me for being me, not for credentials after my name.

More than any book or sage advice, it was your presence in my life that most helped me when after 30 years I transitioned away from seeing patients. You've all kept me grounded, growing as a person, and avoiding an identity crisis when far fewer people were calling me "Dr. Tate" each day.

This month is a professional milestone of "4's" for me. Four decades ago I started medical school. Four years ago I worked my last ER shifts and transitioned into serving the well-being of SCP Health's clinicians and team.

In my taking care of patients and now my taking care of doctors, no medical school professor or residency mentor has approached the influence of my wife, S.

Thousands of patients faced a doctor more compassionate, more happy, and more loving because of you, S. You made life better for many people and still do because you make life so much better for me.

My gratitude and love to each of you on this Physician Family Day!

— Dr. Bentley Tate, Chief Wellness Officer

An open letter to my family on Physician Family Day:

While I love my role as a physician and physician leader, my greatest joy is being a mother and a wife. You give me the drive to leave this world better for each of you and those you love. You keep my troubles in perspective, and you push me to keep striving to be my best.

To my husband, who has supported me since sophomore year of college: while chasing your own goals, you stood beside me through every step of becoming a wife, mother, physician, and physician leader. You supported me as a mother through medical school and residency, even knowing the sacrifices it would ask of you. When my vision grew cloudy, buried in textbooks, exams, and endless rotations, you always helped me lift my eyes back up to the bigger picture. Thank you.

To my children, thank you for understanding the times I can't be there, because I'm caring for patients who need me too. The four of you are my world. My heart is always with you — even as I watch the clock at the start of a meet, a game, or a play I can't attend. As you grow, I hope you understand the "why" behind what I do — that the road to a career you love may be long, but the journey is worth enjoying, and you never have to choose between loving your family and holding onto your passion. You can do both.

To my family, you are my "why." Campfires, sunsets on the beach, church on Sunday, and movie nights curled up together — these are what recharge me most. You humble me, and you remind me to stay present, because tomorrow is never guaranteed. Every meal, every bedtime story, every hand-painted card, every hug refuels me and lets me carry your love out into the world.

There are real sacrifices that come with being the family of a physician — missed moments, long hours, time we can't get back. But within each sacrifice lives a great love, one that binds our family together and makes it all worth it.

— Dr. Claire Smith, Hospitalist and Regional Medical Officer

Most people know us for emergency medicine. Fewer know we also lead in hospital medicine, critical care, virtual care, and patient engagement, often across all of them within the same health system. The through-line isn't a service line. It's what happens when clinical excellence and operational support work as one.
