Prebiotic sodas have become a popular alternative to traditional soft drinks, promising gut health benefits with added fiber and less sugar. However are may not all that they are hyped up to be. A recent analysis found that while prebiotic sodas generally contain less sugar and fewer calories than regular soda, many have about the same amount of sugar as fiber. Some products also use marketing terms like "prebiotic" or "no added sugar," which can make them seem healthier than they really are. Researchers recommend looking beyond the front of the package and checking the Nutrition Facts label to see how much fiber and sugar you're actually getting. On top of that, there are healthier ways to get your daily prebiotics, like eating oat, nuts, onion, etc. Check out the article linked below to get the whole story and hear some direct opinions from doctors, and if you would like assistance on your pre-and pro-biotic nutrition plan, consider contacting us at nutrifitga.com to work with a registered dietitian and read more here:

Thinking about meal prepping this week? Beans are a fantastic addition to almost any dish, whether they are in your salad, soup, pasta, or even making a bean burger. Beans or legumes are loaded with nutrients: a normal half cup serving has 8.9 grams of protein and 8.7 grams of fiber. On top of that they have large amounts of folate and a moderate amount of magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc. They are also a high carb energy source when fueling and recovering from sports, so mixing them into your post-game rotation could help! Also, there is over 25 years of research that links consistent bean consumption with a healthier heart. Infact, eating legumes four days a week can lower your risk of chronic heart disease by 22 percent and eating ½ to 2/3rds of a cup daily can have as much of an impact on lowering your cholesterol as better known foods for this. Beans also help boost your gut health by providing the good bacteria from all of the fiber content. For more information about this and the other number of health benefits beans could have for you, check out the article linked below and if you would like assistance on your wellness or sport nutrition plan, consider contacting us at nutrifitga.com and read more here: https://www.everydayhealth.com/diet-nutrition/can-you-eat-beans-everyday/

Let’s talk about hydration and simple strategies to encourage daily intake. The blog "9 Best Water Intake Tracking Apps and Strategies" highlights apps or bottles with techniques to remind you to drink adequately. Our body gives us physical symptoms—such as dry or cracked lips, the sensation of thirst and darker urine color—when we need to drink. But tracking hydration status has been shown to help prevent headaches, maintain focus, prevent heat illness, and improve athletic performance. Additionally, staying hydrated helps improve metabolism, lubricate joints, and maintain organ function. But how much water does one really need? This depends on factors such as activity level, types of foods and beverages you consume, your age and gender, and heat and humidity. An average man requires minimum of 3.7 liters (125 fluid ounces), and women a minimum of 2.7 liters (91 fluid ounces). There are more recommendations for other populations in the article including how to calculate water intake for the individual. Water tracking apps such as HidrateSpark and Watercat can be downloaded to assist with meeting your water intake goals. Stay hydrated! If you need help with your hydration plan, consider consulting a certified specialist in sport dietetics at nutrifitga.com. How is social media affecting those who struggle with eating disorders? In the National Eating Disordet Association report "Social Media, Eating Disorders, and Self‑Harm Risk: What Our Community Told Us", summarizes firsthand experiences from individuals affected by eating disorders and highlights how social media platforms can intensify body dissatisfaction, disordered eating behaviors, and self‑harm urges. Clients describe harmful content, such as extreme dieting, body comparison posts, and algorithm‑amplified “thinspiration” posts. All worsened symptoms or triggered relapse. Caregivers also reported increased body checking, withdrawal from meals, and compulsive scrolling. On a positive note, the report also shows that social media can however provide recovery‑supportive spaces. The report calls for improved platform accountability, safer content practices, and stronger support for individuals navigating recovery in digital spaces. If this is of interest to you and you are struggling with an eating disorder, consider our weekly virtual support group on Saturdays at 10 am. Contact us at info@nutrifit for more information.
