Nosebleeds are common and usually brief and harmless, but they can be startling. One potential cause is dry air, which can make the lining inside your nose crack and bleed.
To remedy this, consider using a humidifier and stay hydrated.

Also keep in mind that colds and allergies can also irritate the inside of your nose. You should seek medical attention if nosebleeds happen often, if you have difficulty breathing, bleeding lasts longer than 20 minutes or symptoms follow a facial injury.

Need a simple summer refresh? Your diet can help to support your ENT health! Try adding the following: omega-3 rich foods like chia seeds, flax seeds, salmon and walnuts; fresh produce, grains and legumes to help boost immune support; and spicy foods to help loosen mucus when you’re congested and provide temporary relief from sinus pressure.

If persistent ENT symptoms are getting in the way, schedule a visit with our experts for personalized guidance!

Summer colds happen, and getting sick during allergy season can make it hard to know what’s going on. Allergies often cause itching in the nose, throat and eyes, while colds usually don’t. Colds are also more likely to include a sore throat and body aches, in addition to fever.

And while both can cause coughing, a tickle-at-the-back-of-the-throat cough points toward allergies, while a more persistent cough with mucus points toward a cold. Reach out for a consultation with our experts if you suspect allergies!

Not sure when it’s time to stop guessing and get checked? Knowing your symptoms and logging your timeline can help.

Consider an ENT visit if you have a combination of cold-like symptoms such as nasal congestion, postnasal drip, sore throat and facial pressure or swelling for longer than two weeks. Any new loss of smell and taste, headache, fever, fatigue and bad breath may also be signs of something that requires a follow-up.

With spring allergy season overlapping with other viral illnesses, it’s easy to second-guess symptoms. Remember that allergy symptoms are generally the same from year to year, and any significant change should prompt a follow-up with your allergy expert. Allergies typically cause itchy, watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, and congestion.

We’re here to help if you have more questions. Reach out to schedule your next consultation!
