Hi everyone! I’m training for the Chicago Marathon this fall and running it with Team Ronald McDonald House Charities. After today’s long run, I launched a small mile-sponsorship fundraiser that lets people “claim” a mile I’ll carry with me on race day.

It’s $50 per mile, with a raffle once all miles are filled. No pressure at all - even cheering me on means a lot.

If anyone wants to take a look or grab a mile, the full post is on my profile.
Thank you! 😊

Officially tapering and counting down to Sydney in less than 3 weeks! Would love some ideas of things to do and places to eat. We have tickets to the opera and considering Taronga Zoo. Please drop a comment with some other ideas!

End of an Era!

After 5 incredible years, it’s time for me to say goodbye to OSU Buckeyes! It’s hard to put into words what this chapter has meant. Together, we built the neuroplastic surgery program from the ground up. This was truly an effort grounded in passion, collaboration, and the shared mission to improve the lives of our patients. I’ve had the privilege of caring for people at some of their most vulnerable moments, working alongside brilliant colleagues, and teaching the next generation of surgeons. We spearheaded groundbreaking, NIH- funded translational research to develop new strategies to help our patients. In doing so, I have learned, grown, and been humbled countless times.

As I move on to new opportunities, I hope I’ve left this place just a little better than I found it. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and deeply grateful to everyone who’s been part of the journey. Thank you for the trust, the challenges, the laughter, and the unforgettable memories.

Here’s to the next chapter, with a full heart and eyes wide open.❤️

Another 20 mile long run done!! I must admit, the Lake Geneva shore path is one of the most breathtaking runs I’ve ever done! I also met a new running buddy Marisa, and did a part of it with her and her fiancé. The lakefront mansions with their perfectly manicured lawns and landscaped gardens, birds, rabbits, and chipmunks were just so beautiful against the backdrop of the lakefront mansions sounds. It was a tough trail to run with variable elevation and terrain, but so worth it! I ran the entire thing with no music so I could soak it all in. Running feels like such a privilege. Is it? ❤️

Midwestern Association of Plastic Surgery (MAPS) meeting at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin! It’s my first time at this meeting and it’s been incredible. It’s well organized with an impressive line up of lectures. I was honored to be invited to speak on “hostile cranioplasty”, which is surgery speak for very complex scalp and skull surgeries, with this esteemed panelists. Although I was a speaker, I learned something new from each of them. I also got to moderate a session and hear some excellent talks from the residents and medical students. Thank you for having me MAPS!! ❤️

Whew! Today I ran a local half marathon as part of my long run, and PR’ed with a finish time of 2:00:55. Those 55 seconds will haunt me, (you know my new goal now is a sub- 2 hour half marathon haha). Even more awesome, I won 1st place for females in my age category! This marathon thing is getting addictive 😂

One of my dear mentors .med Dr. Oscar Salvatierra used to tell me it doesn’t matter how much innate ability you have or how motivated you are, if you lack DISCIPLINE you cannot achieve your full potential. Eliud Kipchoge, one of the greatest marathoners of all times, says something similar- “If you are undisciplined, you are a slave to your moods and your passions.” Sometimes running isn’t fun and the motivation isn’t there, and it’s purely discipline that gets you through it. Today I looked outside and it was so gloomy with predicted rain. I did not want to get out of bed and run 14 miles by myself lol. But I went and it turned out to be such a fun run, cloudy and cool with no rain! The trails were lovely and the cardinals were out and about everywhere. Just the mental break I needed! 12 weeks until Sydney!!!

A colleague of mine reached out to ask my opinion on repairing the skull for an international patient. I reviewed the case and gave them some feedback. Turns out the patient is a calligrapher, and they sent me this note. I love it so much!! I am so grateful for my patients, they constantly motivate me and challenge me to keep researching and innovating to improve their outcomes ❤️

In the US, about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Although male breast cancer is less common, in the US about 2,800 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.
For women at average risk of breast cancer, the general recommendation is to start yearly mammogram screening at age 40. For women with higher risk, such as family history, the screening recommendation may be a bit different. Please talk to your doctor and get screened! Are you up to date on your breast cancer screening?

And that’s a wrap for the Plastic Surgery Research Meeting 2025! The theme for this year’s meeting was the past, present and future. I was so honored to present on the “future” panel with my colleagues in the first pic, and thanks for the awesome pics of my talk!! Congratulations to all the trainees who did an incredible job presenting their research, with special shout out to the Neuroplastic Surgery Research Fellows! It was so great catching up with colleagues and mentors. I love this meeting because it’s a chance to get a glimpse into all the cutting edge research being done in Plastic Surgery. Until next year!
