With over a decade of experience in early literacy, Margaret Conway provides a specialized approach to reading readiness that goes beyond traditional classroom instruction. As an Associate Level member of the Orton-Gillingham Academy, Margaret utilizes the Science of Reading to help preschool and Pre-K students master the foundational phonemic awareness and decoding skills essential for long-term academic success.

By focusing on multisensory, evidence-based techniques, she helps children build the “muscle memory” needed to turn abstract sounds into concrete reading skills. Margaret is available for individual tutoring or small-group “K-Prep” sessions both during and after school hours, specifically designed to bridge the gap between the preschool years and the increased academic expectations of Kindergarten. Her goal is to partner with both families and classroom teachers to ensure that every student leaves their day school with the confidence and tools they need to thrive.

It’s Easter season and that means… lots of egg hunts!!

Who knew plastic Easter eggs could do so much more than hold candy?! 🥚💬

Here are a few of our favorite ways to turn egg hunts into speech + language magic:
🌸 Hide picture cards inside eggs to target vocabulary & articulation
🌸 Practice WH questions: “What’s inside?” “Where did you find it?”
🌸 Build sentences: “I found a ___ in the ___!”
🌸 Work on following directions with multi-step egg hunts
🌸 Target sounds by filling eggs with objects that match your child’s speech goals

Have you heard of the SpeechEasy device?

The SpeechEasy is a small device worn in the ear—similar to a hearing aid—that can help some people who stutter speak more fluently. It works by slightly altering the way the user hears their own voice, using techniques called delayed auditory feedback (DAF) and frequency altered feedback (FAF). These changes can help reduce stuttering for certain individuals.

✨ Why some people find it helpful:
• Encourages smoother speech patterns
• Can reduce blocks and repetitions
• Small, discreet, and easy to wear
• Often used alongside speech therapy for best results

💬 Important to know:
The SpeechEasy isn’t a “cure” for stuttering, and it doesn’t work the same way for everyone. A speech-language pathologist can help determine if it might be a good option as part of a personalized therapy plan.

Here are easy ways to turn it into a speech-boosting activity at home or in therapy:

🐮 Play with farm animals + a truck and model animal & vehicle sounds
📖 Match toy animals to the pages in the book
🎨 Make Valentine hearts and “deliver” them like Little Blue

At age two, little ones are growing into BIG communicators! Here are some common language milestones we look for around this age:

🗣️ Vocabulary boom: 50+ words and growing
🧩 Two-word phrases: “More juice,” “Mama help,” “Go outside”
👂 Understands simple directions: “Get your shoes,” “Come sit here”
👋 Uses gestures + words: pointing, waving, showing objects

Our Christmas party is a language-rich and FUN environment for our clients. We will make crafts, snacks, and play games. The party focuses on building vocabulary, practicing language skills, and working on social skills. All abilities are welcome!

Welcome to the Buckhead Speech team, Diane!! 👋

Diane earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Georgia in 2022 and completed her master’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Georgia State University in 2024. She has experience working with both children and adults and enjoys supporting children as they grow their speech and language skills.

When she’s not in the therapy room, you can find her teaching Pure Barre, exploring new restaurants around Atlanta, or enjoying walks outside.

Diane is excited to support families in the community by helping children develop strong speech and language skills!
