To wrap up , Marcus Autism Center hosted our 2nd annual Spectrum of Fun Carnival. 🎪 The sensory-friendly experience was filled with carnival games, face paint and lots of smiles all around!

Duckie got his nickname early—born with a congenital heart defect and undergoing multiple open heart surgeries as an infant, his first sounds after being extubated were an unmistakable “quack.” The nickname stuck and became a perfect fit for his one-of-a-kind personality.

Over the years, Duckie’s family has relied on Children’s for cardiac care, neurology services and, eventually, support through the Marcus Autism Center. After being diagnosed with autism at age 7, Duckie started receiving services in the Complex Behavior Support Program, starting with ABA therapy and transitioning to psychotherapy services.

Today, Duckie is thriving. With tools and strategies tailored to his needs, he continues to build confidence and better navigate moments when he feels overwhelmed. He loves collecting Hot Wheels, spending time with his sister and challenging himself in Hapkido, a comprehensive Korean martial art.

In honor of , we are celebrating Duckie’s growth at Marcus Autism Center and the impact of care and support for children on the autism spectrum.

Congratulations to Sydney, one of our Registered Behavior Technicians, for receiving the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Hope and Will Award!

After witnessing a car accident on her way into work, Sydney stepped in to calmly support a young passenger with a head injury—bringing comfort during a frightening moment.

Her quick thinking and compassion made a lasting impact, truly exemplifying what it means to care about people. 💚

Thanks to a $21.9 million grant from the late Bernie Marcus and The Marcus Foundation, Marcus Autism Center will conduct the largest-ever study of children across the autism spectrum to identify new targets for better treatments for children and families affected by profound autism. Clinicians and researchers will conduct the study alongside ongoing clinical practice at Marcus Autism Center to identify factors that can lead to an improved treatment response. The study will include 7,500 children from infancy to early adolescence, to support learning and to help make symptoms less severe, ultimately promoting a better quality of life for children and families affected by profound autism. WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: Our three hospital locations—Arthur M. Blank Hospital, Hughes Spalding Hospital and Scottish Rite Hospital—and emergency departments are open for patient care. For the safety of our patients and staff, Children’s is making the following operational changes due to winter weather:

❄️ All urgent care centers and outpatient clinics are closed Saturday, Jan. 31.

❄️ Hamilton Creek Urgent Care and Duluth Orthopedic Clinic will be closed on Sunday, Feb. 1.

❄️ All other urgent care centers and scheduled outpatient clinics will open on a delayed start at noon on Sunday, Feb. 1.
