I have a philosophy that sometimes shows up in the therapy room:

Don't take life's stressors too seriously.
or
Don't take them too personally.
or even
Don't take yourself too seriously.

These words mean a lot of different things to different people, but they are attempting to address the same thing Dr Seuss is addressing here. Sometimes we have to step back from our own perspective and self-inflation to better understand and cope with reality.

Please don't think this message is for everyone. It's not. But sometimes the answer is less of ourselves, not more.

The last 15 or so years of tech development have shaped our individual brains and so changed our society.
Get back to the woods as often as you can.
Plant a garden.
Sit by a fire.
Touch grass.
You are wired for a more natural setting.

I often explain ADHD as being “still wired for the farm life”. On the farm we respond to needs as they arise in the moment. The cows get out, the fence gets squashed, the water line gets broken…the needs present themselves with urgency and we are ready to respond.

Again, we find that “ADHD” isn’t a wrongness of being or a “disorder”. It’s simply a different neurotype. It’s not “wrong”, it’s just different.

We only see ADHD as a problem more often as society becomes more metropolitan and sedentary
