Happy Hand Therapy Week!

“The success of hand therapy is based on three core foundations: transdisciplinary knowledge, sharing/collaboration, evidence-based decision making and patient centeredness. We share a common bond that is our passion for hand therapy. It is our challenge to keep the torch burning, sustain our core values and continue to advance our legacy of providing high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care.”

Happy Hand Therapy Week!

"In fact, I believe that the hands are among the most important parts of a human being, third only to the brain that guides us and the heart that drives us. After all, it is the hand that carries out what the mind and heart desires. Your are the architect of the future!" - Terri Wolfe, OTR/L, CHT, 1997 ASHT Presidential Address

Share with us in the comments a special memory of how you helped change a person's life through hand therapy.

Happy Hand Therapy Week to all of our fellow hand therapists!

We will be sharing some inspirational quotes throughout the week, but wanted to kick the celebration off with some facts about the history of hand therapy!

*The idea to form the American Society of Hand Therapists started in 1975 in San Francisco by six therapists: Bonnie Olivett, Karen Prendergast Lauckhardt, Evelyn Mackin-Henry, Judy Bell-Krotoski, Mary Kasch and Pegge Carter-Wilson

*ASHT incorporated in 1977 and the HTCC incorporated in 1989.

*The first CHT Exam was administered in May 1991.

*Today, there are about 6,000 CHTs in the United States.
