The MOST important injection of egg freezing: the “trigger” shot.

This is the last shot before your egg retrieval and “triggers” the iniation of the FINAL egg maturation that ultimately ends in ovulation EXACTLY 40 hours later.

Get your medicines ready 1 hour before you are supposed to take your injections. TIMING is KEY here. Inject too late and you could ovulate before your egg retrieval (which means there will be zero eggs retrieved when you are under anesthesia). Inject too early and your eggs arent mature enough when you retrieve them!

Just get everthing ready and youll be FINE!!

Cetrotide (aka ganirelix or antagonist): a medication added into your medication protocol once your follicles grow to a certain size. The purpose is to prevent ovulation, or release of the eggs from the follicles.

We want to completely control ovulation because our goal is to retrieve the eggs at one time under anesthesia going into each follicle. The eggs are microscopic so we can only see the follicles (or black sacs) surrounding each one. We assume there is an egg in every follicle. Occasionally, patients breakthrough the medicine and ovulate their eggs prior to the egg retrieval. We suspect this by an elevated progesterone level, fluid surrounding the ovaries on ultrasound, or no eggs retrieved during the egg retrieval. This is why cetrotide is so important!!

1. Gonal F: Contains FSH in a prefilled pen you dial up to your dosage

2. Menopur: contains FSH and LH in powder form. You must mix with water to dissolve, pull into a syringe, then inject:)

I have a dream.

I have a dream that one day all women at the age of 21 will freeze their eggs. I have a dream that we live in a society where we proactively take back control of our biological clocks.

Where we dont have to worry about going to multiple graduate schools
or settling for the wrong man in order to have children
Or being ashamed of freezing your eggs.

Where Women that are diagnosed with cancer or premature menopause in their 20s or 30s already have their eggs frozen.

Where egg freezing Is financially and physically accessible to everyone. Maybe even part of our taxes.

Where Egg freezing is sexy- A sign of maturity, female empowerment and social progress.

Where we have the June Post-graduation egg freezing rush of patients.
