Staff members Gloria Thornton and Willinda "Gill" Adams represented Herschel Thornton Mortuary at the Benjamin E. Mays High School Alumni Association Annual Brunch on 5/2/2015. The Brunch is the Alumni Association's flagship event, and raises funds each year for scholarships awarded to two graduating seniors at Mays High School. Both Gill and Gloria (along with staff members Brandon Thornton and Kentacia Wideman) are graduates of Mays High School.

Our founder, Herschel Thornton Jr., made a big splash locally and nationally when Thornton Mortuary became the first funeral home in the country to offer a drive-thru viewing window. While many enjoyed the pure novelty of the idea, the viewing window was developed to accommodate the needs of elderly guests who were unable to walk into the funeral home, and also to allow for after-hours viewings.
