How To Sit With Your Feelings: A Step-by-Step Guide
1. Label the Emotion
Begin by acknowledging the emotion you're experiencing. Ask yourself, "What emotion am I feeling?" Use descriptive words to accurately label it. This step helps demystify the feeling and gives you some distance to observe it.
2. Locate the Emotion
Pay attention to the physical sensations associated with the emotion. Where do you feel it in your body? Focusing on the physicality makes the emotion more observable and less overwhelming.
3. Accept the Emotion
Remember that feelings are temporary. Say to yourself, "This feeling is here, and it's okay." Acceptance allows you to experience emotions without judgment or resistance.
4. Get Curious About Why You Feel This Way
Explore the reasons behind your emotions. Ask questions like, "Why do I feel this way?" and "When have I felt this before?" This introspection helps you understand the underlying trigger.
5. Allow the Feeling
Give yourself permission to feel. Whether it's tears, sighs, or other expressions, allow the emotion to flow naturally. It's part of the human experience.
Remember, emotions are like waves—they come and go. By sitting with them mindfully, you gain insight, resilience, and the ability to navigate life's complexities.🤗🤗
